Description

About the Book

You have inherited my tastes, my treasure. You adore cataclysms, the breath of the wind through the trees--that love for beautiful trees--as well as rivers and the sea, wrote Sidonie Landoy to her daughter Colette in a letter dated 1907. In response, the writer offers her mother a portrait of a free and passionate woman, devoted to her children, to nature, and to animals. Orbiting around her are her husband--the enigmatic Captain, an inveterate reader--her two daughters, and her two "wild" sons, who leave home to roam the countryside... A truly beautiful autobiographical account through which the great writer weaves together the memories of a happy childhood--a narrative that embraces both nostalgia and the celebration of life.
