Sony ULT FIELD 5 Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this speaker a week ago and i am extremely impressed with it. Upon opening the box you can feel the build quality and it also looks amazing. The strap is a beautiful addition embossed with metal hooks that are secure so give you peace of mind. The speaker can remain sleek with the ability to hide the connections for the straps easily and effectively. The sound itself is impressive the bass is deep the highs are crisp and the vocals are punchy its easily the best sounding speaker i have had. The addition of the lights that cycle through colours and follow the beat are also fantastic. The speaker can also be used to charge things too so works well to charge your phone while you use it. Overall its an amazing sounding beautiful looking well built speaker with extra functionality i would definitely recommend it.

After several weeks of use across different settings, in the garden, inside as a main source of varying volumes of music and using the speaker for gentle background music at family gatherings, here are my thoughts on the wireless speaker and some of the features that it has to offer. Build Quality and Design. The first thing I noticed about this wireless speaker is its solid construction. Sony has crafted this speaker with a robust exterior that immediately gives an impression of durability and premium quality. Every surface feels thoughtfully finished, from the tactile rubberised buttons to the recessed charging ports on the back. Despite its solid and tough build, the device remains light enough to be carried around. Carrying Strap: Comfort and Practicality. To assist with the carrying around, Sony includes a high-quality carrying strap with the ULT FIELD 5. The woven material strap is wide and adjustable, making it comfortable to sling over your shoulder or carry in hand. The attachment points feel secure and able to withstand the bumps of transportation. I did have issues fitting the strap to the anchor points on the speaker due to the small loops for the strap hooks to slide into. Once done finally, they are solidly attached and not going anywhere. Ease of Setup and Connectivity. Setting up the ULT FIELD 5 was very simple and straightforward. Out of the box, the speaker powers on with a single press and pairing it with a phone or tablet was seamless and done very quickly. The device supports multipoint connectivity, allowing you to pair with more than one device at a time, ideal for households or groups where music control is shared. I would, however, love to be able to integrate the Sony system with my home virtual assistant, to allow more flexibility over control of the speaker. Sony Sound Connect App Integration. The Sony Sound Connect app elevates the user experience. Installation is straightforward, and I found that the app quickly recognised the speaker. Through the app, you can access a multitude of features, including firmware updates, battery monitoring, and most importantly fine adjustments to sound settings. I think that the app interface is intuitive, with well-labelled options and responsive controls. Sound Quality and Customisation. The true test of any speaker is, of course, the sound—and this is where the ULT FIELD 5 excels. My experience of it is that it delivers rich, room-filling audio with a punchy low end that brings energy to bass-heavy tracks without overwhelming the mids or the high tones, the vocals remain clear and detailed. Whether I was playing jazz, pop, or podcasts, the speaker adapted well, never sounding muddy or tinny. I found this to be the case for both inside and outside use of this speaker. Adjustability: Presets and Graphic Equaliser. This wireless speaker and the Sony app provides multiple ways to tweak your sound preferences. The built-in presets ULT 1 and ULT 2 (accessed from either the top of the speaker or the app) offer one-tap transformations for different genres or moods. I prefer the ULT 2 setting as this gives a sense of increased power. Also, the app’s graphic equaliser allows you to sculpt the sound exactly how you want it. I appreciated being able to tweak specific frequencies, which added another layer of personalisation. Sound Field Optimisation. One great feature is the sound field optimisation. When activated on the app the speaker listens to its acoustical environment and automatically adjusts its output for optimal sound quality. I did test this in several rooms, a spacious kitchen, a small office, a moderately sized living room, and outdoors. The results were consistently impressive. For me the music always felt “just right” for the space, regardless of its size or layout. Lighting System and Visual Appeal. The integrated lighting system is a fun addition. Built in LED lights pulse and change colour in rhythm with your music. This can add a lively visual element to gatherings or solo listening sessions. You can adjust the mode of the lights or turn the lights off entirely for a more understated look. Ruggedness and Battery Life. You can tell that this wireless speaker has been designed for adventure, the ULT FIELD 5 is both water and dust resistant, making it ideal for outdoor activities. I had no issues having it outside or even inside in the kitchen near to sinks and busy areas, with its sturdy casing shrugging off the odd bump or splash. I have found that the battery life is simply excellent: on a full charge, I routinely enjoyed upwards of hours and hours of playback, even with the lights and enhanced bass modes enabled. Sony state that this can be up to 25 hrs on a single charge. The speaker also has a battery care feature which I have activated and is designed for prolonging the life of your speaker battery. Charging is very fast, with a full charge not taking very long at all. My Final Thoughts. In summary, I am extremely impressed with the Sony ULT FIELD 5 Wireless Portable Speaker. For me it strikes a perfect balance between portability, performance, and versatility. Its robust build, ease of use, an easy-to-use app, superb sound quality, and customisation options make it an outstanding choice for music lovers on the go. It has quickly become the main source of enjoying music in my home. I really do like this excellent speaker, I use it both outdoors and indoors. I would love it if somehow the technology would allow me to connect it to my home virtual assistant apps to give me more flexibility and control of use when I am using it. I think that whether you’re looking for a speaker for parties, travel, or everyday listening, the Sony ULT Field 5 Portable Wireless Speaker is hard to beat and will appeal music lovers of all ages.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is no lightweight. When you take it out the box you are immediately aware of its weight and quality of finish. I use it to listen to music, radio and with my iPad and iPhone. The sound is first class. Vocals are clean and crisp, the base is something else, deep and resonant. If you want a deep base this is the unit for you. I don’t use the light or carry straps but Im sure other members of the family will soon find out how useful this is and limit my access to it. Im looking forward to using this outside when we have BBQ’s in the garden and not having to worry about the rain , dust and the occasional drop!. Charging is easy and 30 hours is good usage time. It can also be used as a power bank and charge other devices which is another plus

Control is through Sony Sound Connect app. Found the ULT button awesome with 2 Base settings and has a lighting feature. Also has a feature of connecting additional unit(s) to amplify the sound which i intend to try shorty as i already have a Field 1. Love using it outdoors to annoy the neighbours (sorry). On conclusion its amazing considering its size and I use various music apps on my mobile. Thank you Sony!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Sony ULT Field 5 is supplied with charging lead, instructions and adjustable shoulder strap. Once charged it will last up to 25 hours depending on the volume selected. The Sony sound connect app allows you to set the unit up to your preferences, I’m still adjusting it to suit me. I’m definitely impressed with the output and that was before using the boost. The LED lighting is a nice feature as is the10 minute charge to give 100 minutes play time. Another thoughtful feature is the battery care button to protect the battery. To summarise it is a robust design, dust proof and water resistant making it extremely versatile whether for use inside or outside. It is an excellent Bluetooth speaker which gives volume with clarity and a solid base without distortion, a very rich sound. Excellent value for money.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This wireless portable speaker is one of the latest products from Sony, and here is my review of it. You can control a lot of the features via the SONY Sound Connect app, but you can just use it as is. The app features like checking the battery level, Lighting, Party Function (DJ Control/Party light) - I personally am not sure I would use all the features, but it does look good if you want to do "live" mixing. Likes -------- The sound! Really, for a portable wireless Speaker, it really pumps out the volume to an unmistakable sound. The bass is deep and did not distort when I went very loud! The sound can be adjusted via the SONY Sound Connect App, via the EQ option, and works well even though you could sit there for ages deciding if it sounds better or worse with each adjustment. It is easy to connect from my mobile phone, and it just works. The lights are a nice idea but not sure it would be on for me. It is waterproof, with an IP67 rating, which should protect it in short-term immersion, but I have not evaluated that! It can last, when fully charged, up to 25 Hours! That is a significant improvement on some of the other wireless speakers out there. (NB. I would opt to change the setting, in the Sound Connect App, to limiting it to a 90% charge to preserve the battery) Dislikes ---------- The ULT button should be clearer on what mode it is set at, as pressing it produces a whoosh sound then changes to the next mode. I would have liked to see a letter showing what setting it is set to. I pressed it several times and whilst the ULT button changed colour it did not give me a clear visual sign of what setting it is in. It comes with a strap that you can attach but fixing the strap to the anchors was a bit tricky. I am not sure I would carry it around by the strap as it could be a bit heaving on my shoulder but that is just me. I did say I the lights are a nice idea, but they are also not very visible. Overall a wonderful Wireless Portable Speaker that I would highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] On opening the box you find the speaker and taking it out you find it a bit heavy, you also find a small box containing the charging cable and a detachable shoulder strap which you can carry in a horizontal / vertical positions. On the back of the speaker there’s a panel once opened you find it well equipped, with auxiliary input for wired connections, a dual usb-c port that handles charging the speaker and other devices, there’s also a button for switching the lights on and off. Sony also included a battery care button which charges to 90% to prolong the battery health. Once you turn the speaker on you can connect your phone or music player or other device which is easy with Bluetooth. Also download the Sony sound connect app using the QR code from the speaker box lid. The speaker has a demo mode if you hold the play button for 5 seconds the sound from the speaker is excellent, if you press the ULT button on top of the speaker you get two additional sound modes, deep bass or attack bass. The multi coloured 360 degree led lights sync to the beat of the music, you can adjust the lights in the app which also has a few useful tools, you can have sound quality, or stable connection. The DJ controls has a graphic equaliser or party light. So with approximately 25 hours play time, 360 lights, you can also connect up to 100 compatible speakers with party connect, or if you have another ULT5 you can stereo pair thus creating a powerful left/ right stereo system

Bought this one week ago, overall it's a great product

I have several incarnations of Sony Bluetooth speakers. I bought 2 of these for linking up and enjoying a wide stereo image. They are very nice to look at, very subtle lights and sound good. Quite hefty though. Sound wise though..........a little disappointed. The previous generation SRS XB41s were better in my opinion. Not only in sonic performance, but in the led lights also. A shame really. Also it would be a better user experience if the different generations were able to link in party mode. Overall though, a good speaker.
