Q: Why does targets website say that this teether is dishwasher safe when it’s not?

A: Hi Amber - this items is not dishwasher safe. To clean, wipe surface clean with a damp cloth. Make sure the water never gets trapped in the squeaker hole. Do not submerge in water, sterilize, boil, or put in the dishwasher. To prevent trapped moisture inside Sophie, cover squeaker hole while cleaning. Our all-natural rubber has similar rules to a toothbrush. One baby, one Sophie! It is normal for the food-grade dye to fade overtime with use.

A: Hello! Yes, please clean Sophie with a mild soap, water and a damp cloth. Do not submerge Sophie in water. Like any toy with an opening (her squeaker), water can get caught inside.

Why on earth is this such a popular toy?
Maybe it's my fault for not reading the directions, but I had no idea this thing squeaks like a dog toy. That's a problem for a few reasons: First, it attracts the dog. I don't need my kid and my dog fighting for the same toy; that's a recipe for disaster. Second, because the "whistle" necessitates a hollow body and a hole, you can't sterilize it. Even rinsing it under water and trying to not get water in the hole, I got water in the hole. That solved the squeaking problem - now it's more of a strangled squeak noise - but eventually that's just going to grow mold because it can't be cleaned. Third, because it's hollow, it feels softer and less substantial (and therefore less satisfying for chewing for my kid) than I anticipated. This is grossly overpriced for a teether. You know with pricey handbags, how you're paying $100 for material and workmanship and $1000 for the label? With this teether, you're paying $4 for quality and $24 for whatever quality halo comes with the "natural rubber" and "made in France" labels. This could be a 5-star toy for me if someone hadn't decided that it needed to "engage" a baby's sense of hearing, i.e., assault the hearing of every adult and dog in the household.

Teether tested positive for lead. Mold can grow inside. Legs are a choking hazard for young infants. There needs to be a recall and refunds issued asap. Unfortunately my return window is expired
