Book Synopsis

It's easy to go through days, weeks, even years on autopilot, moving from one activity to another, rarely taking the time to consider what it's all for anyway. Why did God make us? What does he want us to do with the time he has given us? And how can we find out?

In her bestselling story-driven style, Christian rocker Lacey Sturm shares with readers the beautiful struggle of learning what one's unique gifts are and pursuing them wholeheartedly. She helps them see each day as a gift from God, find balance in their busy lives, and discover the joy of giving God's gifts back to him by using them to bring him glory.

Young people especially will love this openhanded and openhearted take on what to do with their lives, as will those who feel like they've been coasting or heading down the wrong path.

From the Back Cover

Have you ever asked yourself, "What's the point?"

Of this life. Of the same everydayness that can weigh on us. Is life really a gift from a loving God? If so, shouldn't our souls burn to love him back with our lives? What does that look like?

In The Return, bestselling author Lacey Sturm offers a collection of thoughts on how Jesus helps us see the world with new eyes and makes the mundane things in life beautiful. It's a guidebook from a fellow traveler on how grace helps us--to overcome darkness, to release our empty rituals, to shine with his light. Not so God will love us more but because we long to love him back. And a life lived loving God back is a life that shines with heaven's glory.

Are you striving to make life happen? Waiting to get to the real purpose of it all? Coasting in limbo or heading down the wrong path? Then may this openhearted take on responding to God's love give you hope and direction.

"The Return is a refreshing, inspiring, heart-shaking, and soul-stirring book. This is an important book for our culture. It is an encouraging and beautiful depiction of how the Lord sees us and a great motivator to refocus, realign, and replace 'our plans' with his. I'm sitting here touched, and speechless, after reading it."--Trevor McNevan, Thousand Foot Krutch

Unique book

4 out of 5 stars
I must confess that I don’t usually read non-fiction for pleasure. When I do read non-fiction, it’s mostly devotionals and content for Bible studies. So this book by Lacey Sturm was a bit different for me but quite refreshing, enlightening, and thought-provoking. I did not know who Lacey Sturm was prior to reading this book but immediately got involved in her life story through the honest and well-written words. This book combines diary-like entries, reflections on different topics and experiences, devotional-type messages with Scripture, new song ideas and lyrics, and recipes passed down from family members to create a unique book that will appeal to many, especially the younger generation. The author’s emotions are raw and real and her thoughts and responses are down-to-earth and relatable as well as admirable. I received a copy of the book from Baker Books via JustRead Publicity Tour and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
