a. Air the rug out first in a clean, well-ventilated area, like a porch for a few days (a garage is not recommended unless the windows or the doors are open)
b. Turn on the air conditioner or place fans within the space where the carpet is located and keep the windows and doors open. This way will help enhance the flow of air in and out of the space.
c. If you have an air-ventilation system (ducts that exchange indoor for outdoor air) keep this running for at least 48 hours after the rug is installed. You can run it for more if the odor is still present.
d. Vacuum the rug

Disappointed
The rug was beautiful color and perfect size. I purchased three sizes to finish kitchen, seating area and hallway. Actually, compared to other rugs by this manufacturer, pretty pricey. The texture was a series of tightly placed bumps. Different! Sadly these bumps where surrounded 360 degrees by trough, perfect place for 360 degrees of dirt. Too deep to sweep or vacuum the dirt. Always a mystery of hidden particles.

DISGUSTING- strong MILDEW smell and DIRTY
Purchased 2 of the 10’x10’ silver rug. Both rugs were DISGUSTING. They were shipped with only a heavy paper wrapped around them, no plastic or anything to protect the rug. I ordered them one at a time- I only purchased a second because the first was so bad. The rug itself was dirty with a very strong musty/mildew smell. It actually triggered an asthma attack for me within minutes of opening. I purchased it a 2nd time hoping that it was just a one-off, but the 2nd one was exactly the same. Dirty and reeked of mildew. Returning both. Absolutely disgusted that a rug would be shipped like this, let alone at this price point.

Back rolling or reverse rolling the rug - Unroll the carpet and roll it up again in the opposite direction. To keep it secure, place heavy furniture on the rug while back-rolled/reverse-rolled to keep it from unraveling. (Leave it back rolled for 1-3 days). 2. Refer to our video on how to unpack, unroll, straighten and flatten your new rug -How to Straighten an Area Rug - Safavieh- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A4L4pCNS5U 3. Refer to our additional video on how to remove creases - How to Remove Creases from Indoor-Outdoor Rugs. 4. Use indoor rug/carpet tape- tape down the corners of the rug to secure and flatten the ends of your rug. 5. For folded corners, the best thing to do is to fold the corners under and let them rest for several days. 6. Place the rug on a hard flat floor instead of a carpet while it relaxes. 7. Simply allow ample time for your rug to settle. In most cases, all you need to do is lay your Safavieh rug flat, and the waves/wrinkles/creases will even themselves out. 11. Use indoor double-sided carpet tape to tape down the rug to secure and flatten the ends of your rug (This will prevent bunching and buckling). o You want to run the tape along the perimeter and put an X through the middle of the rug from corner to corner this will secure the rug. *These creases/waves/bumps/wrinkles/kinks will normally flatten out on their own so in most cases, you can simply allow ample time for your rug or runner to settle. Be patient and let those kinks work themselves out.
