Brilliant for slow-cooked oats!
I have been buying Bob's oats for ages, but this was the first time slow-cooking their steel-cut oats. With an Instant Pot we made slow-cooked apple-cinnamon oatmeal, which turned out perfectly. Only use steel-cut oats for slow-cooking! The texture and flavor were perfect, and thanks to the sweetness of the diced apples only a small amount of maple syrup was needed. Slow-cooked oatmeal will become a staple during fall and winter.

Questions
I tried steel cut oats for the first time today. It was good, but I was surprised that the oats did not soak up all the water. I treated the liquid as a substitute for milk and added some seeds, nuts, dried cranberries. Should the oats have soaked up all the water? I cooked the oats for 22 minutes and allowed it to sit for 2 minutes after I took it away from the heat.

The oats should soak up most of the water, but be sure to stir them often when cooking; they will release starch which will thicken and help with the consistency. They should not be watery, however. If you had a lot of excess liquid or the oats remained crunchy, please let us know. You can reach us at customerservice@bobsredmill.com, and we are happy to assit further!

We love the quick steel cut oats however we have been freezing the bags for a week because we were finding weevils in some of it. Freezing is an attempt to kill any possible eggs in the bag

My daily breakfast - but today I found a problem
Since joining weight watchers I have been mindful of healthy breakfasts. I buy a package every 2 weeks, This morning I bit down on a stone in my oatmeal. I caught it before hurting a tooth but I wanted you to know.

Crockpot cooked Oats
I have enjoyed fixing our steel cut oats in the crockpot per the package instructions. Usually there is a brownish crust on top. However this morning the crust was green! Is this mold?

First time purchaser
I recently bought a small bag of Steel Cut Oats at the grocery store. I made two servings in a non-stick saucepan. After the water got absorbed, it was difficult to keep cooking for the entire 15 min. It was sticking to the pan. Today, I made one serving in a stainless steel pot. Same thing. Once the water got absorbed, it was sticking to the pan and I turned off the burner before the 15 min. Once I added the oats to the boiling water I cooked it on low. In spite of all that, I really like the taste and texture of the steel cut oats. Husband - not so much!

Perfect texture. Healthy and easy choice. When counting calories it is unclear if the nutritional information is for dry or cooked oats.

Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats are superior. Bob's Red Mill obviously uses the best quality grain.
The quality of Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats is of the highest grade of grain, not 2nd or 3rd tier. You can tell the difference between Bob's Red Mill and other brands the moment you pour them into boiling water (my preferred method to get them started). The residual foam is minimal and very clean, and they cook up hearty and creamy. The texture, appearance, taste and smell is wholesome and delicious. With other brands, the water looks gray, and the excess of starchy foam looks suspiciously dirty and gritty. The oatmeal isn't nearly as appealing by all standards compared to Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats.

Reliable steel cut oats
I’ve eaten your steel cut oats for year. Ordered directly from you because my local grocery doesn’t always have them in stock. I’ve tried other brans but yours have the best texture and flavor.

Give steel cut oats a try.
Steel cut oats have more flavor and better texture than rolled oats. If the cooking pot is set up and the oats soak overnight, turn on the heat before you start the coffee and they are fully cooked in about 15 minutes. We even add the nuts and raisins to the overnight soak. I wouldn't say this is better or not than Bob's organic version. One or the other is sometimes not available. But Bob's products are always fresh and well hulled with no non-chewables in the package.

I go with the Prize Winner - Golden Spurtle
I was a convert to steel cut oats a few years ago. Bob's has the best taste and texture for me. My local grocery store has no Bob's products or ANY steel cut oats. I ordered a carton - to make sure I always have my favorite!

Perfect Breakfast
My favorite breakfast cereal from the Bob's Red Mill line. I like to undercook it a bit so it's more chewy. I also add some chopped almonds sometimes. I understand why it has won awards.
