Melissa & Doug Wooden Child's Lift-Top Desk and Chair - White: Fixed Height Office Furniture Set with Storage

Absolute piece of junk, which is pretty on par with every other piece of furniture I've purchased from Melissa and Doug. It was a total nightmare to put together. I usually put these types of things together by myself without issue, but I needed to recruit my husband for help with this one, and it took us a whole lot of strong language before we finally got it. Most of the screws required an obscene amount of force to get in, and I'm a little concerned how well the desk will hold up with the amount of cracking noises we heard while screwing them in. One of the legs was nearly impossible to screw in due to the mechanism that lets the desk top go up and down being in the way; we almost had to take it off to get the leg screws in, and we ended up rounding out one of the screws in the process. The desk is wobbly as is the kid and it gets stuck open and requires more force than should be necessary to close it. There are a few bumps on it, and the top edge along the back just looks sloppy; it looks seamless in spots but there's an obvious gap in others. The aesthetic things wouldn't bother me normally, but it's really just icing on the cake with all the other problems. Would not recommend this product, or anything else from Melissa and Doug to be honest. We've had a few other items that were just as difficult to assemble and overall not the quality you'd expect with the way people swear by this brand. Easily the one of the most overrated companies out there.

i am so disappointed in this item. the product was extremely difficult to put together. i’m not sure if we got a messed up desk/screws but none of the screws actually screwed in to anything and I think all the screws came stripped! I was so excited to give to this my 5 year old for Christmas, but unfortunately will have to return.

We got this desk for my petite 7 year old daughter— it’s probably better for a slightly younger child but she’s still a little too short for a regular sized desk. It’s very cute and seems sturdy. My only reservation is that the first desk we ordered came badly damaged (chips and cracks) in the top. Target was great about replacing it but even the new one has slight imperfections. I think we will probably keep it but it’s not ideal and I wonder if it will get more damaged easily.

This is a nice sturdy little desk. Granddaughter loves it!

I'm really sad to be writing this review. I never write terrible reviews on products. I just return the item and I'm done. It's not a big deal. However, I'm just so disappointed with this product. I did my research, read the reviews and I decided to go with this desk. I love Melissa & Doug products. I have so many of their toys and their quality is amazing and I have not been disappointed. However this is the 3rd time I purchased this desk and I'm going to have to return it. The first time it came, the desk had a fracture line across the top of the lid. The second time it came, the chair had a fracture line on the side. This is the THIRD time I ordered it and the chair, again has a fracture. At first I wondered if it was due to shipping and having it being tossed around -- but still, I've gotten other furniture, etc delivered and the packaging should be protecting the product inside. But also, for me to receive a desk/chair that has cracks on them THREE times in a row? There has got to be something wrong with quality assurance... I am just so very disappointed because this is not a cheap desk. I've had to unpack and then REPACKAGE this desk three times. I did not unpack all of it before checking for the breaks in the wood but it was still very hard to have to repackage this not to mention lug it back to target to return. I have been trying to get a desk for my toddler for over a month now because of this back and forth. I do not think I will be purchasing this. I give up.

Good quality but a bit pricey

My 5 year old daughter loves her new desk. Our favorite feature is the desk opens up and you can store books and school supplies etc. The price was reasonable and the quality is amazing!

Quality , very sturdy

Perfect size for my almost 4 year old. She's 38 inches tall. I love that her fingers won't get slammed on with the lid. Super sturdy easy to put together. I will probably last till she is 7 because, maybe 8 it is meant for smaller kids.

This is a wonderful desk. Perfect for the little artist in my life. It was easy to assemble and is very sturdy. The lift top has a wonderful hinge that will keep little fingers safe. The desk holds a good supply of markers, crayons, paper and glitter.
