Q: Can I get additional shelf boards?

submitted by Hannah - 6 years ago
  • A: I did. went to the home improvement store and bought the hardware and pre finished shelf. I cut out into two shelves out of it. cost about $12.

submitted byTiny dot - 3 years ago
  • A: Extra shelves are easy to get at your local handy store (Home Depot). They will cut to size. Get extra pegs for the shelving and go crazy with adding as many shelves as you’d like!

submitted byAli - 8 months ago
  • A: Take one of the shelves to Home Depot and have them match it and cut them to specification

submitted byMiki - 4 years ago
  • A: Does this come with tools?

submitted byTaby - 8 months ago
  • A: Can I purchase more shelves and from where?

submitted byMonice - 6 months ago
  • A: These bookcases (all of them) are safety inspected with the number of shelves they are sold with. It’s VERY rare to see additional shelves offered for these kinds of bookcases. They have liability issues etc. if you want to add additional shelves it’s a kind of ‘take your own chances kind of thing’. I’ve done it before … go to Lowe’s and buy a thin board and have it cut to size. Always put heavier on the bottom for stability.

submitted byGreensAndNettles - 4 years ago
  • A: I went to Home Depot and had shelves cut to fit this bookcase. They also have the little round shelf holders to hold up the shelves inside of the case. Itr cost about $8.

submitted byLina - 5 years ago
  • A: I am going to buy the Rubbermaid 12 in. x 24 in. White Laminated Wood Shelf from HomeDepot and saw down the length a little less than an inch and get it to fit in as best I can. It's under 7$ and just need to purchase the little stopper things.

submitted byLizzy - 5 years ago
  • A: Target, please offer the option to purchase extra shelf-boards with these bookcases! For smaller items like compact discs etc, this could be a good-value media shelf, really better than for books

submitted byScott - 3 years ago
  • A: Just a suggestion on what I’m going to do is buy another bookcase use the shelves and then use the bookcase as a wardrobe by placing 1 or 2 rods in them.

submitted byBrandy - 9 months ago
  • A: I bought a simple mdf board from home depot that just happened to be the perfect size to make 4 extra shelfs the same exact size and ones that come with it. Shelf pins from amazon, paint. Cheap

submitted bySuperdeleted - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Hannah - Thanks for stopping by! This bookshelf is great to keep you organized, however you cannot buy additional shelves for this. We hope this will work for you! - Katrina

  • A: I agree with Hannah, I love these shelves, I have two of them, but I would really, really like to be able to purchase additional shelf boards. As tall as these bookshelves are, I could easily fit six or even seven shelves into the case and fit more books. Please, Target! Make purchasing additional shelves available!

submitted byKatie - 5 years ago
  • A: Menards sell shelves in difference colors that would work in the bookcase. You may have to cut in down a little to fit and if you don't have extra pegs you may need to get those too.

submitted byBaking Momma - 4 years ago
  • A: What the. Width of this item

submitted byJethro - 1 year ago
  • A: I might be making some enemies here, by suggesting this, but you might be able to get shelving elsewhere.

    submitted byMelaine7677 - 4 years ago
  • A: It's so cheap you could just buy another bookshelf and use it for the shelves.

submitted byRobin - 5 years ago
  • A: Not a helpful response at all from Target. Additional shelves definitely need to be offered for this case.

submitted byJamesKight - 5 years ago
  • A: Sell us extra shelves, Target! I'd buy at least a dozen. Would be way more convenient than lifting 4 heavy boxes with the entire item just to get 12 more single shelves. This is a NO BRAINER

submitted byFlorida Man - 3 years ago
  • A: How tall of this white collection 5 tiers book shelves ? Above 6 feet tall or more before I purchase it fir my white shelves pantry foods kitchen

submitted byDeborah - 4 years ago

Q: How big is the actual box before assembly? Planning to order for pick and need to know if a truck is needed. Thank you!

submitted by Lee - 5 years ago
  • A: I watched the video and it shows that the sides are two pieces that is why the dimensions don't seem to add it. I have put together other ones similar to this and they have held up very well.

submitted bybellasnana - 5 years ago
  • A: If this item is about 72” tall, I don’t see where the box dimensions are smaller. Unless the side panels have to be put together, instead of arriving in one piece, it doesn’t add up. Hoping someone can clarify this so I can be sure it fits in a car. Thanks!0

submitted bySue - 5 years ago
  • A: No truck needed I took one home in the trunk of a Camry.

submitted byLotus - 5 years ago
  • A: You do not need a truck. It fit in my Honda Civic.

submitted byShannie - 4 years ago
  • A: Box is small, can fit in the actual seat of any car. About 36 inches at its longest point.

  • A: @Sue, yes you need to put the side panels together. They’re split in two in order to fit in the box better. You can see the seams in the photos

  • A: Great advice from Laura to pick up those replacement pegs at the hardware store. The 1/4" pegs are indeed too big. Just keep in mind you're going to have to get metal 5mm pegs. Wooden pegs don't seem to come in that size.

submitted byMarcus - 4 years ago
  • A: I was able to use a standard 5mm shelf pegs for these. You can purchase them from any hardware store. 1/4" pegs are too big.

Q: Do they label the boards for assembly now? Tried to buy these before, but no parts were labeled making assembly extremely difficult as directions state by A,B,C etc.

submitted by Kerrison - 3 years ago
  • A: No they are not labeled, just put a few together myself. Still easy enough, just seperate and keep A+B and C+D together (C and D have the large holes for the 4 connecetor screw pieces.

submitted byDavid - 3 years ago
  • A: They aren't labeled, but the instructions come with pictures of everything.

Q: Why is there a CA Prop 65 warning on this? Specifically what is the danger? Is it only if it’s broken or does it give off fumes? Please help- this is disarming

submitted by El - 4 years ago
  • A: Most likely, I wish they would answer directly but they like to dance around this question..... all this cheaply made furniture usually has "preservatives" in it unfortunately.

    submitted byhs66 - 3 years ago
  • A: To anyone wondering what would trigger the California Prop 65 warning, it's very likely just the MDF it's made of. It can emit formaldehyde since it is manufactured with it.

I would advise anyone seeking a 72 inch high bookcase to find those brands that have single piece 72 inch length vertical supports, and stay away from those bookcases, needing assembling, that provides 36 inch height supports that are to be attached to one another. The problem with this 72 inch bookcase is with the vertical upright supports being split, at 36 inches, meaning one has to be stacked on top of the other ... it makes for an unsteady bookcase, especially when the fastners are of poor design and the locking link holes don't line up. As the photo shows, I used my workshop materials/resources to affix side bracing for those wobbly stacked supports, and attached plywood sheets to the back of the bookcase on the bottom, midsection, and top of the bookcase. It was after all those hours of work and material resources that I finally had a satisfactory steady bookcase. Returning the bookcase to Target would be futile, as it was a flawed design. Furthermore, the same defects could have been for the manufactured inventory run of units Target took delivery on in the Summer of 2025. For those wanting a 72 inch tall bookcase, spend the extra dollars for product that has the 72 inch height supports in single lengths, stay away from the split support lengths of 36 inches.

I have several of these bookshelves. They look nice and are easy to put together. However, as many say, it lacks additional shelves. Well, Target Shoppers, here is the hack for that! Because Target sells additional shelves! Simply buy the 3-shelf version of this bookcase; here is the UPC: 492490502940. This has 2 shelves plus the top and bottom. Additionally, you can cut the sides down for 2 additional shelves. 6 shelves for $28 bucks. Your Welcome.

I bought two of these bookcases to organize clutter in my daughter's bedroom, despite some negative reviews saying parts were not labeled making it hard to assemble. I honestly did not have a hard time at all following the instructions, and I actually perferred not having the lettered stickers on each part. In the past, I've had experiences with other brand's labels leaving a residue behind after peeling off, and I find it to be much easier to not have to deal with that. I bought two bookcases and I was able to put them together in about 2 hours, which was great. They hold a lot of items, especially with the 11" fabric cube baskets as storage, and they look great in her room.

I got this on sale for $30 and was able to put it together myself. It is split in half so you can easily fit in the trunk. You do have to read the directions carefully and when you attach the back panel , make sure the nails don’t come out on the other side and mess up the wood. If you carefully follow directions and label the parts yourself before you start, it’s very easy. The people that are complaining probably didn’t read and follow instructions. It’s good quality and very similar to the one I have from ikea. You definitely have to anchor it to the wall because it’s tall and can fall over.

Cheap and flimsy - 5 days ago, Verified purchaser
I bought this origianlly to help store a bunch of linens. Assembly was easy, but I had to be very attentive to details, or else the screws, pegs, and such didn't line up the way they should. My biggest issues lie in the back panelling. They are very very thin trifolds, so when I pulled it out of the box. I was shocked. Once set up and attached the the shelves, they are still quite flimsy and don't fully rest flush against the structure.
