A: To ensure full adhesion of Rust-Oleum Imagine Chalkboard Spray Paint, the surface must be completely clean and free of any chalk residue. If residue remains on the surface, it can cause the coating to peel.

I bought two cans for a toy shelf project. I realized I needed more and bought Krylon brand for the second coat. Krylon brand chalkboard paint was 100% better than the Rust-Oleum Brand. The Rust-Oleum was hard to spray, ran easier and cover less ground. Krylon was MUCH easier to spray and performed much better! Hopefully this helps someone for their project. Buy the Krylon brand!

It was effective but messy, small coverage with the spray and the scent took a few days air out.
I decided to buy the paint and would suggest that instead. It was faster the scent was minimal.

Thought I prepped the space appropriately by taping off area to be painted, opening windows and using a fan to ventilate. The overspray went at least 6 feet to the side. I found this to be overly messy and not worth it.

This stuff was so easy to use to turn a little wall in the kids outdoor playhouse (that’s attached to their swingset) into a chalkboard for them to use! The kids love pretending that it is all kind is things from a menu to a school chalkboard. I only wish I had thought to do it sooner and the spray is so much easy to use.

Love this stuff! I used it on a metal file cabinet I had that I wanted to have double as a small chalkboard for young kids. Spray was nice and even and the chalk wipes off easily. I'd definitely buy this again.

Chalk project
I used the Rust-oleum chalkboard black spray paint on a wood TV tray. It spray evenly on the wood surface without running and dry quick between coat. I used two coats going in each direction let it totally dry for 24 hours before using chalk marker on it then let it set and wipe it came clean and paint still there for another craft activities. It was fast and quick even a 12 do this project. I received this has a complimentary.
