cubbies ended up being awkward, overpriced.

For what it is, it's not worth the price. I think it looks nice, but it is not the most practical design. I put it in my entry. For it to be useful with the hooks, it needs to be high enough that our jackets won't be close to the floor, but then the pocket cubbies are awkward because they are way above eyesight and things get lost in the bottom, I have to use a step stool to empty them out. (if you're only going to be using the cubbies for tall items, like water bottle, umbrella, I think it would work.) But, in my house it's now become a weird junk drawer type space I mostly find annoying.
