A: It didn’t irritate my skin and I’m pretty sensitive! Also worth noting that I have never bought any of the vanicream products- I grabbed a bunch of a variety of samples at my ALLERGISTS office (they do not sell any products, the dr said they had the samples because so many patients have asked what skincare he recommends and I guess his office requested the samples? So I grabbed a bunch bc usually I feel like if a dr has samples it’s bc they are getting some kind of kick back, and they are selling the product, or it is not readily available or whatever and there’s some way the company can track how much product they sell bc of the dr… but they didn’t even have coupons or anything and I actually thought this WAS something that required a prescription or was expensive, I didn’t know it was available in stores until I saw this pop up in my target circle stuff 10 minutes ago!)

A: My allergist said it was safe to use on my son and he was 4 at the time and has very sensitive skin (he constantly gets little bumps and rashes on his face arms etc, most products make him itchy and his eyes swell up.. and the body/all over cream of theirs actually helped calm those issues down!) so I think it will be ok? I used to be a hairstylist and I try to apply the same precaution with any product I use on him that I did with my clients- do a patch test before using the product. Patch test is when you apply a very small amount of the product on 1 or 2 areas of the body (for hair purposes, it was always behind the ear- easy to access, likely to react to any allergens, and enough space that it can be covered with a loose bandaid when/if appropriate- which would not be the case with any dyes that react to heat, bleach, developer, permanent solution, etc.. nothing that is heat activated should ever be covered!) anyway, when I do a patch test on my son or myself, I try to apply the same logic- choose an area that 1) the most discreet option in the closest proximity to where you would be using the product on your body (behind the ear would be appropriate for most skincare products) and 2)that you can apply the product to without having to worry that it will transfer or wipe off or have contact with any other products, and, depending on the product, if necessary you can cover it with a loose bandaid that allows it to breathe while preventing it from being rubbed off or washed off for 24 hours.
