Pros: Excellent Packaging Strong materials Abundant hardware supplied although 1 knob missing Looks nice when assembled Very sturdy Cons: Assembly instructions contain only pictures, no written directions, which can be confusing to the impatient or those not experienced in assembling furniture Some pieces warped (1 cabinet door does not close properly, 1 support piece in back needed replacing but you can't see it from the front.) Missing knob - too small (1 in dia) to be matched at my local store or online. (I could only find 1 1/4 dia here and online but no big deal for me personally) Lights don't plug in and must be wired yourself. I bought two sets of these bookcases because they are so similar in appearance to a much more expensive set from a well-known store, so I expected a few small quality-related issues, which (for me) is fine for what I paid. The cabinet bases are a bit confusing to assemble based on there being so many parts, the instructions could have offered better explanation, and there were a few mislabled pieces. Getting the first cabinet done took us awhile (and we have been assembling furniture for years) but after that we got the rest assembled fairly easily. The upper bookshelves themselves are simple to build. We skipped the lights entirely and I am looking for others that are already wired for plug-in, but we figured this would be the case anyway. Bolts are metric - just a good thing to know if you need to buy any additional. We decided to live with the slight warpage on the last cabinet door because the entire thing must be repackaged for return and we ended up just putting a washer on the magnet so the cabinet door would close, although it still isn't flush (see photo.) The few things we didn't like are things I wouldn't have tolerated in a set costing twice as much, but for the price we were willing to pay we can live with replacing a warped support piece (on the back of one cabinet), replacing the lights (we were going to anyway) buying a replacement cabinet knob, and dealing with the slightly warped cabinet door. However, these units are still not cheap, and the quality was not 100%, and that's why I'm only giving four stars.
