Vornado EVDC500 Humidifier: Portable Evaporative, 2-Gallon Capacity, Quiet Operation, Large Room 300-900 sq. ft.

This humidifier is doing exactly what I needed: moisturizing the air that heat has been making unbearably dry. It's in a central location in my house and seems to be positively impacting both levels. No more shocking out kitties when we pet them, one another, and noses are much less dry. This unit is easy to get up and running, is quiet, easy to refill, and easy to clean. Very happy with my purchase and highly recommend.

I’m really impressed with this humidifier. The airflow design distributes moisture evenly throughout the room instead of concentrating it in one spot. It runs efficiently, feels environmentally friendly, and does exactly what it promises. Definitely worth it.

We have a 1600 sq ft house with 800 sq ft on ground floor and 800 sq ft in basement. WE run a natural gas furnace which provides very good heat but dries the air considerably and it was in the 30% to 40% range I set this humidifier at 50% and run it on high and in less than 24 hrs our humidity levels were in the normal range and averaging about 45% to 60% which is perfect. Very low maintenance humidifier. I don't use the expensive humidifier water treatments . I put about a 1/2 tea spoon of bleach in each water tank about every week and no mold or mildew at all. For the price point this may well be the best humidifier out there.

I've had a Vornado 1-gallon tank system for about 5 years, and it works great, but we moved to Arizona. Our house is larger and it's a drier climate, so I ordered the EVDC500. I could tell a difference right away. We have it in a large open space (831 SF). My husband had been gone for a week and came home and commented that he could tell a difference. I was visiting friends for several days and could tell a difference that their home was much drier than mine. It's quiet, no white dust forms, and it's easy to use. I love that it has a feature that automatically turns it off if it runs out of water. I would highly recommend it.

I have had this unit for about six years now. It has been working great. I have a 1250 sq. ft. townhouse. It can maintain a minimum 40% RH with outside temps in the teens Fahrenheit. I use the Eco mode and it is whisper quiet. I use RO water and one teaspoon of treatment per tank I think I can address two of the complaints. As far as the humidification capacity goes make sure the wicks are properly seated and are wet at the top. Also they need monitoring. I find that the lifespan for me is six to eight weeks. Depending on usage. Bottom line is that is your home allows a lot of air infiltration the unit may simply not be able to keep up. You probably need a larger capacity humidifier. Or two. The other issue is one I first experienced today! Leakage. Yes, it was caused by overfilling. In my case I filled a tank right to the top. The water coming from the tap is cold. Because my RO water system is in the basement. As the water sits in the tank and rises to room temperature it expands pushing out past the valve. I found a small amount of water on the floor. Leave a quarter inch air gap to the top when you fill it. Problem solved.

I had a smaller one the ran 24/7, this one get it done faster and goes quite till it's needed. Having two reservoirs, lasts all night and well in to the day.

I leave it on the auto/eco mode and it quietly purrs, I love it. The humidistat doesn't show what the current reading is, just the set point, but based on when the fan starts and what two other devices show for rh% it's got to be dead on. Easy to take apart and clean too

The humidifier reservoirs are easy to fill and clean. Due to the way the unit is designed, the base is very easy to clean when replacing filters. It maintains a constant humidity in the house; and is very quiet.

I bought this and fill both tanks and initially it works, the fans kick on, but after 1-2 minutes, the fans stop. I have an air sensor in my home so my humidity is low, and the device humidity level is set higher, even at max setting it does not kick on. Waste of money and now I have to send it back. I will not be trying Vornado products anymore.

First one received was defective. Fan would not function. You replaced it with another. Thanks for that. The second one doesn't function either. Fan ran for 15 seconds and has stopped working on any setting. Since you do not do refunds and only replace the product I now have two I have to pay to recycle. I sure do not want another one as the two I got were defective out of the box. Bad experience, never again with that model.

Had the unit for a few years. We only ever need them in the winter. Somehow the control panel just won't turn on this year. It was finicky last year and would turn itself off if bumped ever so slightly. It's like the control unit is supposed to sense when everything below it is in position, but even when everything is good to go, it still won't turn on because one of the various sensors isn't working correctly and it won't tell you which one. The added complexity with the unit has made it a less reliable/resilient product. The old, "dumb" humidifiers (all vornado) that we still have for the rest of the house at least still work.

I like the new tank design, and motor warranty. It's very quite also.

This is our second humidifier. We always buy Vonrado for their great design, quiet and reliable operation, and quality.

I bought this version with the two water bottles as well as one with the one water bottle and they all leak. I have to keep the humidifiers on trays to hold all the water that spills out of them.

Though dim, the lights can't be shut off and that's not good for sleep! Only had it one night so don't know how well it performs otherwise.

I have two vornado humidifiers. A single tank one I bought 1 year ago and a dual tank one I bought 1 month ago. They are nicely designed easy to use and clean humidifiers. I've had many ultrasonic ones and hands down this is much better

Decided to try this instead of the cool mist humidifier I had been using for the last few years. (I got tired of the white dust all over everything.) The humidity has yet to go over 40% according to a separate hygrometer that I have set up in the room. That means the device runs continuously because it never gets up to 50%. With continuous running, the pads dry out. I thought running at slower speed might help, but still they dry out. I guess the only solution is to allow for a period of not running at all to enable the pads to soak up the water again. I'm experimenting with how long I can run it without the pads drying out. No answer yet; I've had it less than a month.

Purchased this last January. For the remainder of the heating season it worked great, raising my homes humidity level from 28 to 40 percent. As heating season has just started brought this unit out and filled the tanks. Within hours the tanks were empty, unfortunately most of the water had leaked out onto my carpet. It seems that the valves at the base of the water canisters do not seal and the water overflows from the lower reservoir. Good thing this was not near my wood floors!

Bought two units. One unit worked for about 30 seconds and stopped work. Second unit work for about 1 month and then the fan developed a loud rattle. Not satisfied at all.
