5 Shelf Bookcase - Room Essentials™

We got this shelf for my husbands legos and books. We have 2 side by side and it's great!

It’s fairly easy to put together, I just got it to match the other two that I already have. Great price.

It was damaged. The boards were chipped.

It’s decent but not very sturdy

The quality of bookshelves are better than ones I have bought at another store. They are about the same price. I have small closet spaces in my home. So to make it not look so cluttered (clothes hanging filled to the max with plastic drawers on bottom, previously) I added one in each kids room and I used the old shelf it had to stack on top of the bookshelf and used the lil extra space for clothes that needed to be hung on remaining room in closet. I'm able to still use the top to add additional things. I folded clothes on bookshelf which felt more organized. My closet, I added one bookshelf on each side and in middle I used to hang clothes. (Got the idea on Facebook. Best organized affordable idea ever) I also bought a bunch of bookshelves for my utility room to store things instead of a disorganized look I have a cohesive look with those cube bins to match all around.

I have 2 of these bookshelves I bought when they were $40. They are cheap particle board and that's fine, they get the job done for what was an okay price then. But they're now $52... a $12 price hike for the quality of what they are is insane. They do NOT justify that price and I realize it is likely tarrif related but this is something Target should have absorbed. These are barely worth the $40 they use to charge.

Only hold few books. If you add the full shelf shelf will lose shape.

I purchased these last year when they were $40 and at that price point I thought they were a pretty decent bookcase. They're not perfect and definitely not high-end furniture, but I am able to put quite a bit of weight on each shelf and for the most part, they look pretty good. I want to purchase a couple of others to go in a different room and sew that the price went up $12in past couple weeks, which I assume is tariff-related. Regardless, I personally think the current price point is too high for this item.

Gave it 4 stars because although it ended up looking great I hated that none of the pieces were lettered. I mean it’s nothing to double check the instructions a few times but specifying the pieces saves a lot of time.

Easy to assemble. Plenty of space for my books. Only thing I disliked is white was the only color available.

Extremely disappointed that target no longer sales the espresso brown variant of this bookcase. I bought one to see if I liked them with the intent to buy multiple more and now I’m just stuck with one bookcase.

It’s way too cheap and wobbly for them to raise the price. This is $35 shelf at most

Book case is great but one side had a small Crack all the across one side panel.

Easy to put together and looks really nice. Definitely not amazing quality but you get what you pay for. They look really cool as a bookshelf wall in my front room. The one thing I strongly dislike is that there’s only one shelf for the bottom half. Who wants gaps that big when putting books on a shelf? I have bought quite a few of these over the years, and they tend to break when moved but I have always kept the shelves so now I have extra to get the look I want.

It worked out fine originally but it genuinely can't handle a lot of rearranging without snapping into a million pieces. I tried to move it when redoing my space and it literally snapped. Horrible quality. Great if you're looking for someone who is in their forever home/space

Very frustrated with this purchase - wrestled it into my car and up a huge flight of stairs, unpacked only to realize that none of the pieces are labeled and many of the shelves had scratches or chunks missing. I was initially going to purchase in the app for drive up, but then decided to just go into the store and purchase it myself because I was feeling bad about making someone carry this heavy piece of furniture out in the heat. Not only did I pay $12 more for the item in store than it was listed for in the app But now because I purchased in store I would have to repackage and return this item in the store. It seems that target doesn’t bother with quality control since I’m sure that they know that most people aren’t going to repackage this item and bring it all the way back to the store. Very upset and further affirms my decision to no longer shop at target.

5 stars for the value. It’s an affordable bookcase that will hold your books reliably. I strongly recommend you anchor it to your wall, the kit to do so is provided. Lastly, there’s plenty of assembly videos on YouTube you can watch to bypass the instructions for those that don’t do well with them (me).

I love the shelf. It is exactly what I needed.

We've bought and assembled plenty of Ikea billy bookshelves. This room essentials bookshelf was a better dimension for our space and had great reviews, but it doesn't measure up. Our billy bookshelf is taller, much more stable and much easier to assemble. Would be a hassle to return at this point, so we'll keep it but wouldn't buy it again.
