A: These bookcases (all of them) are safety inspected with the number of shelves they are sold with. It’s VERY rare to see additional shelves offered for these kinds of bookcases. They have liability issues etc. if you want to add additional shelves it’s a kind of ‘take your own chances kind of thing’. I’ve done it before … go to Lowe’s and buy a thin board and have it cut to size. Always put heavier on the bottom for stability.

A: I might be making some enemies here, by suggesting this, but you might be able to get shelving elsewhere.

A: Not a helpful response at all from Target. Additional shelves definitely need to be offered for this case.

A: Extra shelves are easy to get at your local handy store (Home Depot). They will cut to size. Get extra pegs for the shelving and go crazy with adding as many shelves as you’d like!

A: Just a suggestion on what I’m going to do is buy another bookcase use the shelves and then use the bookcase as a wardrobe by placing 1 or 2 rods in them.

A: It's so cheap you could just buy another bookshelf and use it for the shelves.

A: Menards sell shelves in difference colors that would work in the bookcase. You may have to cut in down a little to fit and if you don't have extra pegs you may need to get those too.

A: I agree with Hannah, I love these shelves, I have two of them, but I would really, really like to be able to purchase additional shelf boards. As tall as these bookshelves are, I could easily fit six or even seven shelves into the case and fit more books. Please, Target! Make purchasing additional shelves available!

A: Sell us extra shelves, Target! I'd buy at least a dozen. Would be way more convenient than lifting 4 heavy boxes with the entire item just to get 12 more single shelves. This is a NO BRAINER

A: Target, please offer the option to purchase extra shelf-boards with these bookcases! For smaller items like compact discs etc, this could be a good-value media shelf, really better than for books

A: I am going to buy the Rubbermaid 12 in. x 24 in. White Laminated Wood Shelf from HomeDepot and saw down the length a little less than an inch and get it to fit in as best I can. It's under 7$ and just need to purchase the little stopper things.

A: I bought a simple mdf board from home depot that just happened to be the perfect size to make 4 extra shelfs the same exact size and ones that come with it. Shelf pins from amazon, paint. Cheap

A: I did. went to the home improvement store and bought the hardware and pre finished shelf. I cut out into two shelves out of it. cost about $12.

A: I went to Home Depot and had shelves cut to fit this bookcase. They also have the little round shelf holders to hold up the shelves inside of the case. Itr cost about $8.

A: I watched the video and it shows that the sides are two pieces that is why the dimensions don't seem to add it. I have put together other ones similar to this and they have held up very well.

A: @Sue, yes you need to put the side panels together. They’re split in two in order to fit in the box better. You can see the seams in the photos

A: If this item is about 72” tall, I don’t see where the box dimensions are smaller. Unless the side panels have to be put together, instead of arriving in one piece, it doesn’t add up. Hoping someone can clarify this so I can be sure it fits in a car. Thanks!0

A: Box is small, can fit in the actual seat of any car. About 36 inches at its longest point.

A: No truck needed I took one home in the trunk of a Camry.

A: You do not need a truck. It fit in my Honda Civic.

A: I was able to use a standard 5mm shelf pegs for these. You can purchase them from any hardware store. 1/4" pegs are too big.

A: Great advice from Laura to pick up those replacement pegs at the hardware store. The 1/4" pegs are indeed too big. Just keep in mind you're going to have to get metal 5mm pegs. Wooden pegs don't seem to come in that size.

A: If you order 5mm pegs, they will fit.

A: Yes it comes with the needed supplies.

A: yes but you need a certain drill bit size. i’m scrolling here to find the size. but we’ve mounted 3 other shelves like this

A: The unit should be secured to the wall so it cannot tip over, but the floor should bear all of the weight. You cannot mount it elevated.

A: I have mine setup with books and a few toys, it’s fine without being bolted to the wall, it’s been almost 5 years and still going strong.

A: You don’t “have” to, but for liability purposes the manufacturer is going to advise that you “should”. And they are required by law to include an anti tip kit with the unit. Many children have died after being struck and pinned by tipping furniture.

A: No but it comes with a bracket to do so. If you ever have kids around it id for sure put it into the wall

A: No they are not labeled, just put a few together myself. Still easy enough, just seperate and keep A+B and C+D together (C and D have the large holes for the 4 connecetor screw pieces.

A: I have had several, the backing adds stability without it will begin to lean. I have bought contact paper in a design I like and added before adding the backing to add a little interest

A: Yes it can, I higly doubt the backing material adds and sort of stability. I have 2, they are sturdy enough as they are.

A: The backing is thin, but it is indeed structural. It gives the unit shear strength so it doesn’t “rack” and collapse sideways. The unit must have the backing installed.

A: You should definitely anchor it. If I remember correctly it's only one hole. the book case itself isn't heavy but could be dangerous if it tipped over with books or decorate vases on a child.

A: Honestly, it depends what you put on it, and how you balance the weight. If you put a bunch of heavy books on the top shelf, and only some paperbacks on the others, it will tip over - basic physics. But if you do the opposite (which I always do) and put heavy books (like old textbooks) on the bottom, and put lighter books/photos/etc on the upper shelves, it won't. Mine is on carpet and it's fine with paperbacks on the top, and progressively more weight until the full shelf of heavy books on the bottom. HOWEVER it you have kids or pets that could run into it or try to jump on or climb it, you should *always* anchor it. The extra weight (especially from climbing) may tip it over - it's just not worth the risk. (Same for most furniture that's not solid hardwood!)
