Q: Is this item fragrance free? The brand name Voltaren gel smells like lavender and it gives me headaches.

A: Hi Anita, yes the generic is fragrance-free. After it dries, there is no odor at all. However, when you're rubbing it in, it does smell like rubbing alcohol a bit. PS - Target's generic 5.29 Oz size is the best price I have found anywhere by far!
submitted byKayFantastica - 4 years agoA: In my opinion the smell is horrible. I am unable to use it at all and will return. The manufacturer has added some fragrance like the cheap body sprays teenage boys use. It's extremely offensive.

I tried this as a replacement for lidocaine patches and, while also seemingly providing no comparative relief, it was so sticky even after allowing time to dry before dressing that my loose pants were attached to my knee all day. Even after pulling them away from the injury, it kept sticking again. I had to literally wash my leg in the middle of my work day with little help because of how much it seeped into the clothes.

My doctor recommended Voltaren for pain in my shoulder. I have usually been very happy with Target brands, but in this case, this was a disappointment. It was very runny and didn’t seem to bring much relief.

It probably works, considering it has the same active ingredient as the brand name. But it smells terrible, like cheap cologne worn by old men. Lingers after I was my hands. The brand name and other store brands don't have this odor. I bought this thinking I was getting a deal - now I know why it's so cheap. And they only sell huge tubes. Shop elsewhere or buy the brand name.

I liked the smell- a hint of alcohol- not like others with strong menthol scents. I used this on my knee while while I was Waiting for my surgery to be scheduled and it helped. I also use it on my neck/shoulders after sitting at a computer all day at work .

My doctor wanted to prescribe this for me years ago because I couldn't handle side effects from the Diclofenac oral, but he said it was cost prohibitive. So glad you can now buy this for a reasonable price OTC. Works like nothing else on joint pain. Target brand has a scent I don't like but it goes away quickly.
