Q: What is NPK of the Sta Green Potting Mix?

submitted by Linda - 6 months ago
  • A: Hi Linda! While we can't provide the exact NPK (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium) values for Sta-Green's Potting Mix, Back to the Roots Organic Raised Bed Soil has an NPK of 0.18-0.04-0.04. These numbers may seem low at first glance, but they're typical for organic fertilizers. Organic options are designed to be gentler, releasing nutrients slowly over time to support long-term plant health and reduce the risk of overfeeding. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com — we're always happy to help!

Q: What are the ingredients of this soil?

submitted by Lauren K - 7 months ago
  • A: Hi Lauren! Our soils are made from processed forest products, coir, limestone, fertilizer, mycorrhizae, and moisture-balancing yucca. Depending on the soil bag, the organic fertilizers could have ingredients derived from milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy. Please read through each soil bag's exact ingredients in case you have any allergies to any of these ingredients. If very severe, we'd recommend being careful using our soils & talking to a doctor first. All of our bagged soil has poultry litter, feather meal, and sulfate of potash. Our Organic Raised Bed Mix also has Gypsum to improve soil health. Please feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com with questions or concerns! We're here to help.

Q: Is it okay/normal for this to be full of little mushrooms? I'm using it in buckets indoors for tomatoes.

submitted by Justme - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Justme! Mushrooms are a sign your soil is biologically alive and healthy; you can pinch the tops off and throw them out, but it could signal that the growing conditions are too humid and moist. Please feel free to send photos to contact@backtotheroots.com, we would be happy to help you grow.

Q: I opened a bag today and it is almost all powder. The normal mix is the opposite of powder. Any ideas a)what happened, b)what it is and c)how to use it so it is safe to use for vegetable plants?

submitted by fhj52 - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi FHJ52! If you wouldn't mind sending a photo of your soil to contact@backtotheroots.com, we would be happy to have a look to see what's happening with your soil. If need be, we are happy to help with a refund or replacement.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pretty good soil mix. The only downside is I was storing this in my garage for a week and attracted a bunch of ants. If you like gardening, you know that you don’t want it to attract ants so that was something that was a little bit annoying but otherwise I feel like had a lot of nutrients, and I used it for my tomato bed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried the Back to the Roots Better Raised Bed Mix and I’ve been really happy with it. The soil feels rich and fluffy, and it holds moisture well without getting heavy or compacted. My plants seem to be thriving in it—they look healthier and have been growing strong since I switched to this mix. I also like that it’s organic and safe, which gives me peace of mind for my garden. Overall, it’s been a great choice for my raised beds.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've never had a mix that was specifically for raised beds. That's exciting and very interesting. I got this mix at the end of the planting season, instead of getting some broccoli seeds or something to plant, I think I'll keep it in it's fantastic packaging before I use it to plant for the spring. It's made in the USA and is PEAT free. The package it comes in is nice and sturdy, making it easier to save the mix until it's ready to be used. It says it will "grow bigger plants", but that is something I will have to wait to figure out. I detected no unusual scent or odor coming from the package. Overall, this Back to Basics Organic Raised Bed Mix seems like a good quality mix that comes in a convenient package that makes it easy to store and use later.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Back to the Roots raised bed mix is top quality. I have used this brand before for my flowers. This particular mix is great for growing my fall veggies. I like the texture. You can see it is soft for planting. I love that this has plant food mixed in too, this gives my veggie plants a great start. This also has upcycled plant matter and it's made in the USA. Back to Roots is great for planting! I received this in exchange for my opinion.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My mom has been growing her garden this last year so she was excited to hear I was getting this product! Very nice packaging, straight forward in description and durable bag. The dirt doesn’t have an overpowering smell at all very light! We used it on our spearmint plant and since the days I took the initial photo it has been doing just fine! We are definitely looking into different dirts this brand has to offer for her other plants! Would recommend to anyone who has plants or flowers
