Q: With the thermal carafe full, what is the weight? I’m thinking of buying for 81 yo who is frail. The same model with glass is getting too heavy for her. Thanks!
submitted by lovetarget2 - 7 months ago
A: To help you choose a lighter coffee maker, a full thermal carafe (around 60 fluid ounces) typically weighs around 3 to 4 pounds, while a full glass carafe (same volume) can weigh 5 to 6 pounds.

This should have been a five-star coffee maker. The brand is excellent, with a strong warranty and great service. I love the carafe. I thought 10 cups would be enough, but once the teens started drinking coffee, it suddenly felt small. The lid tends to jam and gets tight after a while, and it’s awkward to find the right spot to screw it on. On my first unit, the main control knob failed—it became buggy, imprecise, and the machine would sometimes turn back on after finishing a batch. The worst design flaw is the fill area. They tucked it into the back corners: the left side holds a carbon filter (a nice touch), but the right side has the water level indicator. If you overfill past the line, you’ll be mopping up the overflow. Even worse, reaching that right-hand corner requires using your left hand—not great for us right-handers. That said, the machine does brew excellent coffee. It has a small-batch button for 1–4 cups, keeps coffee hot for a long time, includes a cleaning cycle, and allows preprogrammed brew times with easy-to-use buttons. Overall, it’s a solid machine and a good value for the price. I just hope the company continues to improve on its design flaws.

I would give this unit 5 stars as I like the fact it does not keep cooking the coffee as others do but unlike the last couple versions of this unit I have had I hate hate hate where you pour the water in. No good way not to have water go down the side of unit and other places…..ugh. And I just realized as a result of this the bottom is rusting out, so time to buy a new one and I have to really think about if I want another of these….

I like the fact that this is thermal and I do not need to worry about glass. However, the thermal carafe does not keep the coffee as hot for as long as I wish.
Pretty but not functional

Nice appearance, easy programming, but design not tested! Carafe must be turned upside down to empty because of shape holding contents until inverted. That makes impossible to use the carafe to fill the tank. The lid of the tank, prevents carafe from being inverted right over small portal to fill tank. Nobody tested this! Lid of carafe has almost no way to grip and lift off of carafe when opening.

Thermal Carafe is best

I will only use a coffee maker with a thermal carafe and this one is the best. I had to replace mine because I dropped the carafe and broke the handle and a replacement carafe was almost as much as a new coffee maker. The coffee stays warm all morning.

I like that it beeps when the coffee is done brewing like that you can adjust that you only making 1-4 cups I wish there was an easier way to fill the reservoir. Pouring on the side of it seems to spill more water all around. Also the clock is too bright and should have an adjustment on that

We bought it for the ability to keep coffee hot for a long time, but it really doesn't do that. It keeps it luke-warm at best 8 - 10 hrs later.

This is a replacement for nearly the same coffeemaker purchased 10-12 years ago. That maker was used daily and made great coffee.
product quality consistently not consistent

Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
consistently inconsistent - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
i bought this coffee maker 3 years ago after going through three models to find one that poured without making a HUGE mess. near the end of its warranty it started turning itself on. I tried to go thru the warranty it had left but it ws so complicated I just bought another and now had a bad machine--pouring all over the place instead of in the cup AND turning itself back on to brew after brew was finished--and it is not quite 3 months old (the other started at 3 years). I do not know why they have such issues with consistency in the production quality. It is one of the best coffeemakers if you can find one that works correctly and consistently. And now, I tried to return it within the 90-day return, but the store would not give a credit--the purchase says 90-days from purchase or ship or delivery date, but Target's system does not support the written policy! :-(

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So east to use, fill with water, add coffee, and I can set it to automatically turn on at a set time or set it to brew and let it run. No fuss and no muss. I can make jut a double of cups up to a full 10 cup pot, and the thermal pot keeps the coffee hot for a very long time which is great when I am working and want a second or third cup.
Safe and warm.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this to replace our old Cuisinart, similar model. I really like the thermal carafe. We are always breaking glass ones, so we looked specifically for the thermal one. And the coffee stays warm for a long time. I just wish the mouth of the carafe was a bit straighter, so the coffee doesn't get stuck around the lip when pouring the last drop.
Meh!

The Cuisinart coffee maker carafe that I purchased in 2013 began shedding its coating, so I decided to replace the whole thing. I was extremely disappointed that black was the only color offered. The coffee maker seems to operate as intended, but it does not keep one cup hot "for hours," as promised, but this may have something to do with the volume of water. Since I've read that some of these units stop working prematurely, I'm keeping my original white unit on hand. And, finally, why is 10-cup the default size?
