Please know that the fragrance modification was made after receiving positive feedback from extensive consumer testing, marking the first scent update for Dawn Original in over a decade. To remove the scent from your dishes, we recommend soaking the dishes in hot water with some distilled white vinegar added to it. If the dishes are dishwasher safe, you can run them through the dishwasher. Pour some vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher, along with some vinegar directly into the dispenser. You can also put a cup of vinegar upright on the top rack of the dishwasher so that it gets knocked over and distributed during the wash. It may take a couple of cycles, but the smell will come out. We genuinely value you as a consumer and would like to continue assisting you. We offer a range of scents, including an unscented option called Dawn Free and Clear, Unscented, in case the Original no longer suits your preferences. This includes the use of Dawn for emergency first-aid intervention by trained professionals in accidental exposures of animals. However, because you're experiencing headaches, we recommend that you discontinue use of this scent. We also hear your concerns about the scent lingering on your dishes, and there could be a few potential causes. Over time, dish soap buildup can accumulate on dishes. Also, if you have hard water, it can interfere with the effectiveness of the soap and leave behind residue (using a water filter may help). For best results, add about 2 tablespoons of dish soap to the sink, then add water that’s 105-115°F. We don't recommend leaving dishes to soak long term, but to wash promptly, and rinse the dishes thoroughly with clean water.
