Q: are these compostable?
A: Check with your local diaper composting service. Dyper brand diapers in general are not compostable through municipal composting services - human and animal waste must be treated and managed separately than compostable food scraps and untreated paper products, etc. I contacted EarthBaby (now ReDyper SF) that services the SF Bay Area, and they do compost the Dyper Charcoal diapers. They will soon also be offering the charcoal diapers and wipes but could not yet give an eta on when.

Q: is there an indicator of any sort when it's soiled?
A: No wetness indicator due to the color of the material, which is more like Batman gray than Black. Didn't miss it at all though.

Q: Why is the outer layer enhanced with charcoal - it isn't coming into contact with any of the smelly stuff? Shouldn't it be on the inside layers actually abosorbing the urine?
A: Layer next to the skin is pure white 3D embossed plant-based material that let's the urine go throuh into the core of the diaper where it is locked. Outside keeps the locked stuff in.
