Q: Can the child place anything under the tracing paper to trace or only use the template provided? Is the template a paper or an actual plastic piece?

A: The template is paper and goes under the tracing paper. The lights help illuminate the design underneath for easier tracing so other papers could be used in place of the template sheets.

Giving it two starts because the outside sleeve is ripped in multiple places. And yes my granddaughter will have to take that off anyway but it is a present. And of course want it to look nice.

Perfect gift for a creative kid. Our 10 year old really enjoys using this to design outfits, scenes, etc. I would say this would be good for ages 7-11. Would be great for roads trips or travel as it is compact.

Didn't come with batteries, and didn't say on label that it needed them. The fashion designs are unrealistic and disproportionate. One of them is especially creepy and looks like AI design (check the hands). There are weird sideways v shapes on the girls clothes that don't fit the outfit or natural shadows. The included markers have tips too thick for tracing. I would expect more from an FAO Schwarz product.

Hunk of junk. The metal spring that should touch battery just bends and refuses to touch battery. Just pops out when try to put all 3 batteries in. Therefore it won’t light up. Very disappointed 9 year old as wanted for birthday and out of stock so cant exchange. Expected better quality from FAO Schwartz.

Like old times
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I remember having something similar to this when I was a kid and loving it. So when I saw this more modern versions I had to get it for my daughter for her birthday. To watch the creativity my daughter has come up with by tracing and designing different fashion clothes is amazing. And I love that she is away from the tablet and onto something more engaging. We love how compact everything is for travel. Our only complaint it that the markers are too short and they didn't last very long.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My children's love this Toy Fashion designer set with LED tracing lights. They can draw, trace and color. The LED light-up the whole surface, providing a bright tracing all above and holding the paper firmly in the right place with the clip attached to itself. This beautiful red and white toy set includes 8 markers, 10 fashion templates that can mix and match, some white paper and 1 eraser cloth. Also the light-up tablet includes a cover to protect the tracing board when it is not in use and save all your creations in it. The only thing I had to provide to use it was a pair of batteries. But my kids love it and of course it is on my list of give out.
