Works great!
This is my first bike computer so it took me a bit to figure it out. Still really don't know what all of the options do but so far it works great! Found some good routes with the app and sent them to the unit fairly easily. Kind of wish I went with the touch screen but the buttons work once you figure them out. So far I really like the unit.

Great head unit! Buuttt…
This is a great head unit, it bright, strong signal, has a HUGE list of features, and that’s where it loses a star. There are so many things this device can do, I can’t imagine how the will ever come up with a 550. The issue is, I don’t need that many features. Sure you can turn many of not all of them off but I shouldn’t have to. I prefer for them all to be off and let me add what I want. I don’t want segments for example. Turning them off is a challenge. To clean up the Home Screen I ended up calling support. The navigation is a world apart from my 520Plus and I found it difficult to manage. I’m getting the hang of it but it’s a steep learning curve. Watch videos about this unit, then go get one. If you get one first you’ll be confused. After watching the videos you’ll still want one but you’ll better understand how to manage it.

Garmin? More like Garm-win!
I've tried a few cycling computers from Garmin and I've gotta say this gets the job done and more. The solar aspect ensures that your battery won't quit on you when you aren't ready to quit, yourself. There are so many functions and features that you can tailor the display to what you need and don't need. The app helps a ton in that department. The functions featured in this computer are applicable for pro and amateurs alike. Well worth the investment in a do-it-all headunit.

Great features & wonderful battery life
Picked this up for the Birthday Sale after hearing my friend rave about his 530. It's a massive upgrade from the 130 Plus--the navigation is easy to follow, it has a great heads up display, and it syncs well with my Varia. My only complaint is that all of the menus get a bit convoluted, but there's good help documentation online and I'm sure it's just part of the learning curve. Super excited to keep riding with it!

Great device - learning curve
I'm really happy now with my Garmin Edge 550 Solar. I have a GPSMap 64S and a GPSMap 65S. I assumed the Edge 540 would have similar functionality. When I grasped that it is really a smart watch in a different housing I found what I wanted to use.

Perfect size and ClimbPro works well
I have had 3 weeks of use with the Garmin 540 Solar and it has been very helpful for my rides. Originally, I was planning to purchase a larger Garmin like the 1040 as I was concerned about the size of the map on a small screen. The 540 has turned out to be a good size as it fits neatly on the bar stem, while the clarity of the screen provides good map images. I also broadcast my heart rate to the 540 from my Garmin watch which I use as a HR sensor. It's easy to load up route files to the device. The ClimbPro has been very beneficial for taking the anxiety out of climbs when riding an unfamiliar route. The visual automatically pops on the screen so that I can adjust my effort and gearing for the upcoming grade.

LOVE it
After losing my Garmin Edge 530 in a MTB "incident" I purchased the 540 and I absolutely love it. The fact that it pairs automatically with my Garmin Varia as soon as I turn it on is time saving and reassuring. The camera starts running automatically. I also love that the default setting on the device scrolls though various screens when I'm riding. The battery life is something I'm not sure about yet. It does not seem to me that the solar aspect is making that much of a difference - but I'm still getting used to it. So it's NEW in that regard.

Not user-friendly.
The Edge computer is not user-friendly for someone who has never had a bike computer. There is no user manual. Please avoid buying this if this will be your first time using a bike computer

Button selection could be a little more intuitive. It’s fine after several rides, you get used to it. Fix the hazard warning though, There should be a delete when the hazard no longer exists!!

Very easy to use, I have had it for a month and use it at least 3 times a week and still have over 50% battery life.

Great Features; Need to Use to Learn How to Use
I really enjoy the Garmin 540 Solar but am finding learning what each button does to be challenging. I eventually figure out what feature I want but it takes some playing with. I am sure the more I use it the more intuitive the features and buttons will become.

If you're having a hard time figuring out the functions of your new Edge 540 Solar, I recommend taking a look at the owner's manual, which you can find at this link: http://ms.spr.ly/6420s33Sw If you're still needing help afterward, you can call Garmin Support at 800-800-1020 to speak with an Edge expert about any questions. *KC

Great upgrade
Was a long time user of Garmin Edge 520 and decided to upgrade. With the solar assisted charging, i'm using a fraction of the battery I would normally do. I also love the built in hill profile previews for when I'm free forming a ride with no planned route. All well worth the expense of upgrading!

Edge 540 Solar
I bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace my old Edge 530. I really like it and I’m sure I will like it even more as I get more familiar with it. It has more features than I will ever use, but that’s not a negative because they can easily be disabled. I love the push button controls. That’s why I bought this unit over the Edge 840 which has touchscreen controls. My experience is they don’t work well when wet such as sweaty fingers or in the rain. It may be an illusion but the screen seems larger than my 530. The menu system gave me a little trouble getting used to it, but I’m getting accustomed now. The solar feature is also nice. It’s adding 20 to 30 minutes on a 4 to 5 hour ride. I was quickly able to connect to my power meter and heart rate monitor as well as my Zwift hub trainer. I highly recommend this product.

Excellent computer for your rides.
Some things are strange. They've made screen without touch option and UX is not something good to operate with map. it's very strange, I thought that ok, no touchscreen, ok I will click tons of buttons - but they are useless, only up/down, but to make left/right you need to select mode and use same up/down buttons!!! (really???) Worst engeneers' decision ever. 2) Such a small street names, a lot of space on the screen! C'mon. No, they simply make it visible only when looing in 20 cm in front of it.
