For a Garmin user, it’s a breeze to set up!
This smart scale is a replacement for an older Fitbit scale that failed after getting wet. I use Garmin bike computers and smart watches so am familiar with and use daily, Garmin connect. Read the directions, down load the Garmin connect app and put this great smart scale to use.

Lots of information!!
I've had this scale for several months now but have only just started using it over the last month or so. It was a bit of a challenge to set it up as it needs to be connected to the internet to work (i.e. - I could not figure out to use it as a stand-alone scale), but once connected, it works fine. Provides all kinds of information (water weight, bone weight, BMI, even weather...). But, overall, it does a good job for what it does...

So many cool metrics
While I realize this is just a scale, it is the best scale out there lol. It's easy to use, looks great, has so many cool metrics, and works seamlessly with the Garmin Connect app and on my Garmin Venu. This scale works quickly and is easy to clean. Overall, another great Garmin product.

Great but get a dexa scan for accuracy
This works relatively well and I really enjoy looking at the data. The only drawback is for it to be extremely accurate, you will need to get a dexa scan and set it as a baseline and acts as a calibration for the scale

Couldn't tell you how accurate it is but it is consistent.
The big selling point of the scale is it's detailed measurements of body fat and muscle mass etc. I have no idea if its very accurate, if I had to guess, its not. BUT it is very consistent so at least you'll have a baseline idea of your muscle gains and fat loss. One of my favorite features is that it can recognize different users. My girlfriend and I both use it and when either of us step on the scale it knows who is using it and stores our information separately. When paired with the Garmin connect app it gives you a great place to track progress over time.

Highly disappointed
I bought this scale for the smart features I figured it should work with a smartphone and my fenix7 when I got it I found out you have to have a modem and a house internet connection. I have neither so it’s just a way overpriced scale that gives your weight. And then when I tried to contact garmin to see if there is any way around this there is no contact number available

The Index smart scale does require a connection to a WiFi network in order to send the data to the Garmin Connect account, and there is not a workaround for this feature. Complicated
Directions are short. Linking with multiple users is terrible. The touch feature to change screens is inconsistent. Very poorly designed.

great scale to integrate to connect app
easy setup, great connectivity to the app. Only issue is the feet like to pop off a lot, especially over segmented tile

This help me take a lot of weight OFF
I did a lot of reading about it after I got it. And found out the metrics used is based on the average individual 5’9 the number coming up on the body fat was not making sense. So I got my self a caliper and used the parrillo method on http://www.linear-software.com/online.html Got my fat percentage from the caliper and enters it in the scale through the Garmin connect app. I’m 6’2 and pretty muscular on my whole body except the belly and love handles and 37% was way way off. The caliper said I was 24%. So the scale has difficulty with muscle density I guess. Any who. Love the scale I went from 270 to 194 currently I lost a lot more then I wanted since having distal bicep surgery in April of 2025 so I lost a bit of mass but I’m gaining again super lean I hit 6% body fat a couple days ago now just have to dial in the diet to the right ratio to gain some mass back

Algorithms need a serious update
The Garmin Connect app fitness age needs to be updated with a setting to use body fat percentage vs bmi. While the documentation states that the algorithm automatically selects body fat percentage over bmi when paired with the S2, it does not work! When viewing the fitness app widget, it still states reduce BMI to reduce fitness age. Also capping the fitness age to 7-10 years is a flaw. With technology as advanced as it is today, the inability for these products to account for athletic body profiles is unacceptable. In addition, there should be a ruck function that allows one to select pack weight and it should feed data to Vo2 MAX calculations. Please improve your product.

We appreciate your feedback about the fitness age algorithms. If this is a change you'd like to see, please visit garmin.com/ideas to share that request with our developers. From there, they can review your submission and take it into consideration for the future. As for the rucking, Garmin does offer the Rucking activity profile on select Garmin watches, and this data factors into your VO2 Max. You can read more about that here: - http://ms.spr.ly/6426sa9We - http://ms.spr.ly/6427sa9W5

Works as intended
works well and as intended. I think the metrics are a bit off as the muscle mass and bone mass can vary day to day. but I love that it seamlessly syncs with my Garmin app and the other subsequent connected apps. it is slightly finicky turning it on. I usually have to slide it on the floor or step on and step off.

We are so glad to hear you are liking your new Smart Scale, Tracy! With powering the unit on it looks like you would start by stepping off of the scale and then tap the scale with your foot. A short, sharp tap will turn it on. When the scale wakes up and shows "0.0" you can step on to get your measurements. If this is not helping to wake the scale up you are more than welcome to reach out to our product support team for further assistance. I know you also had some questions about the metrics tracked which they can go into more detail if you would like. Their phone number is 800-800-1020, Press 3 then Press 2. M - F, 7AM - 7PM CTL

EASY SET UP-GREAT INFO
Bought this scale to incorporate weight and body composition with my Garmin watch and cycling computer. The scale calculates my current watts per Kilo so I have real time information about my cycling fitness. It is also very easy to set up for the different users in my household and know who each of us are based on our weight and Garmin Connect account.

A very expensive paperweight
Accurate with weight but way off on other body metrics.

If you notice that your Index S2 is showing inaccurate information, there are a couple basic troubleshooting steps I recommend starting with: 1) Ensure that you're stepping on the scale with bare feet because the scale relies on electrical currents to estimate aspects of your body composition. 2) Ensure that Athlete Mode is either enabled or disabled, as necessary. Here's more information on that: http://ms.spr.ly/6421soX5N If you're still having trouble with these metrics afterward, please call 800-800-1020 to speak with a Garmin Support representative and get further assistance. *KC
