this gauge is total disappointment as there's nothing "instant" about it. takes long time for it to accurately measure food temps. very disappointed that this probe is marketed as instant whereby it is anything but.

We’ve gone through several of these, not because they are not durable but because my husband leaves them in the sink and starts rinsing dishes and soaks the unit causing to get waterlogged and ultimately stop working. If you need a large read out, this is on the smaller side. We typically grill after the sun sets so the light is handy.

Broken. It won't turn on and if it does it's not for long. Broken right out of the packaging. Can't get it wet so yeah that blows. Just don't do it.

This thermometer keeps temping things higher than they are…much higher. I finally threw it away after it said our obviously still raw chicken was 169 degrees.

WHEN it worked, it was great. It was accurate, and the display was easy to read. However, two big issues: 1) As noted by others, the display turns itself off automatically. However, this is not the thermometer itself turning off. Result: if you don’t remember it’s on, you will run down the batteries. 2) The biggest issue in my eyes is that when you wash the thermometer, you need to be extra careful to not get the top portion wet. If you do, the thermometer stops working. You then need to remove the batteries and prop it up, probe end down, so all moisture drains out and dries. I’m pretty sure this is why ours finally died, as when we recently brought it out, it would not turn on, even after replacing the batteries. It was dry, but I suspect the electronic parts simply stopped responding. So now, I need to buy yet another meat thermometer. (I bought an analog one at the same time, and it never gave an accurate reading, plus it was very slow. Someone needs to make a waterproof, or at least water-resistant, digital thermometer!)

Very simple to use. Great designed tool (although the cap is a strange fit - I’d prefer a cap that covered the whole thing instead of the half cap design.) Can’t do better for the price.

Have had it 3 weeks and used a half dozen times. When I turn it on the display will not stay on. Have to hold power button to keep display on. Going in trash and getting a different brand elsewhere. Don't recommend.

Had a problem as soon as I opened it. Discovered some corrosion on the battery terminal. Cleaning it seemed to solve the problem. Two weeks in, the display dimmed to unreadable. Tried two new batteries, but the problem persisted. Returning to Target tomorrow. Incidentally... I would not call it "instant read." It takes ten to fifteen seconds to read close to the actual temperature.
