A: Gerber Cereals contain trace amounts of naturally occurring sugar – this is part of the carbohydrate content noted in the Nutrition Facts. The Nutrition Facts list less than 1 gram of added sugar per serving, which is not a significant amount in the diet. This is from some of the grain starch that is converted to sugar during the process of making our dry cereals. We do this to help give our dry cereal its very fine flake texture. Disappointed. I told my doctor, I purchased this rice cereal for my baby. She looked devastated. Apparently Gerber is a very dangerous line for children and I had no idea. I thought Gerber was the “go-to” line for baby food. My doctor told me there is a lot of arsenic in rice cereal in general and to never give your baby rice cereal. She told me I could use oatmeal or barley or corn grains, but to never use Gerber. I had no idea Gerber brand was so unsafe. It’s very disappointing because my son really took well to it. But she said that he took so well to it because of the sugar since it’s a carb and that any baby would like rice. She also says there is soy in it.

We tried this as a first food for my infant and she loved it. I was able to add more/less breast milk to change the consistency as she became more proficient at eating. It was a safe, nutritious food for her to start with and she late it up!

My son wasn’t a huge fan of the rice cereal no matter how I made it. Every kid is different though so I definitely would give it a try if you haven’t already.
