Q: I sleep with a fan for white noise, is it loud?

submitted by Paige - 5 years ago
  • A: This fan generates enough white noise to cancel moderate fluctuations of noise. I have two . . I never thought I'd love a fan, but their design optimizes air movement AND adequately covers noise.

submitted byCate Currie - 3 years ago
  • A: These are not like prior versions we purchased and love for white noise. We purchased 2 recently and both were too quiet to serve that purpose even on full speed. Barely a breeze too.

submitted byBumSteer - 3 years ago
  • A: Not sure what the other person is talking about, but I've been sleeping with this fan on me for at least 7 years. (The same one - I'm finally needing to replace it because the click adjustment mechanism has given out.) I literally cannot sleep without white noise or moving air, and this fan; s PERFECT. It generates consistent lovely white noise on high and blows a consistent cooling wind. I HIGHLY recommend it as a sleeping fan.

submitted byAshleigh - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. This fan is fairly quiet, and has been designed to be silent. It will not generate white noise. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com. Thank you.

Q: Does this help provide a loud enough white noise? Sounds silly, but plan on taking it to a hotel bc it's always so quite in the rooms.

submitted by Heather - 8 years ago
  • A: Yes, have hung this in our laundry room for hanging clothes. I can hear it through the door when it is on high

submitted byDee - 8 years ago
  • A: This was asked two years ago but I figured my answer may help someone looking now. I'm actually buying this fan (again) FOR the white noise. These things are workhorses and last for years. You can't beat the price!

submitted byChuck Orlando - 5 years ago
  • A: I would definitely say yes. I can't do white noise, I prefer a really quiet room and can't sleep if this is above the low setting. Medium and High definitely provide adequate white noise.

submitted byme - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry Heather. This fan was made to be 25% quieter than our previous fans. On low, this fan is very unobtrusive, but the higher speeds do generate some white noise. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

Q: How to remove grid grill cover to clean blades and grid grill; do not have user manual. I removed the Honeywell logo center of grill, but unsure to actually remove the grill

submitted by Mel63Ray - 6 years ago
  • A: I have own three of these fans over twenty years. I unplug mine and run them under the bathtub's faucet. It gets them very clean. I have done this several times when they began to stall and not run properly. It appeared that the engine in the back became clogged with the fan's lint.

    submitted byDoug269 - 4 years ago
  • A: The screws are tiny cross-head style that are set very deeply. The screws are super soft and strip quite easily. Other than the fiddly difficulty trying to remove the screws without stripping them, the fan is a great little air mover! When it seems like it's starting to slow down (it does slow down) it's time to take it a part and clean it.

submitted byHappyDayToday - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. To remove the front grille, lay the unit face down. Around the back edge of the grille will be a series of deep holes. At the base of the holes will be Philips head screws. Loosen these to remove the front grille. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

Q: Is it battery operated?

submitted by nanalin14 - 6 years ago
  • A: No it plugs into the wall

submitted byalooknac - 6 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. This fan is not battery operated and must be plugged into a 110-120V outlet. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: I don't know the CFM or DB ratings, I can tell you though the new fans (900 series) "25% quieter" are indeed quieter but they also seem roughly 50% weaker than the older turbo fans (800 series)

  • A: It's pretty quiet. I've done several Zoom meetings with it running within two feet of me (on the lowest setting, which is pretty strong when you're that close) and I haven't had any problems hearing people or them hearing me (and I don't talk any louder than normal). I've also had two running at once on the highest setting for a whole room. My parents are in their 60s and have trouble hearing in some settings, but we were able to talk normally even with both fans running.

submitted by Bonnie - 8 years ago

  • A: We take this fan on our vacations all the time as we have to have the "white noise" or cannot sleep. Has three speeds to pick from. I own 3 of these and keep them in each bedroom for guests or just plain air circulation. Great little fan and a great price.

I put two of these on my wedding registry. One is still working fine, the other motor just completely gave up after 8 months. It was used as directed. When it stopped working I used the canned air to clear out any debris by the motor. I even opened the entire thing up and cleaned it and it worked briefly at a much lower speed but it gave out again. Buyers beware!

I was so impressed with the performance of the first, I bought a second. This is my second Honeywell desk fan after purchasing one a few weeks ago. It has kept me comfortable in the last several days of 90 degree afternoon heat. I don't have central air due to radiator heating system, and I use the window air conditioners sparingly as I prefer fresh air. Except for some days this Summer with heat AND humidity were unbearable and a/c absolutely necessary to go about my day, I have used this fan WITH the air conditioner blowing, and in this dry heat without an air conditioner. Well worth only $20 just in energy savings alone. I place it in close proximity to where I am working or sleeping, and life is good. A third and maybe a fourth for other rooms are in my future.

this item seems so highly reviewed but I can't see why. it works well, it's cheap and I would assume it's reliable, but it is loud! I ordered it and ended up returning it after trying 2 other fans from Amazon that were probably half the noise.

It does move air, but it’s a bit louder than a comparative model that’s 2x the price, and doesn’t seem to circulate the air as well either. But the worst part is the location of the dial; it’s small and hard to reach behind the fan, especially if you have it tilted upward. It indicates its wall mountable, that might be useful for someone’s needs.

We love this fan! Obviously we bought it for the deep pink color but also because it was a Honeywell. It pushes a lot of air! My AC broke in my apt and we get a loaner portable window unit. That just wasn't enough so I picked up some fans to help circulate airflow. My daughter claimed this one immediately lol. It sits at the foot my her bed and is a bit too strong for her on high. I've bought the same fan in the past and we love them. With a price point that doesn't break the bank, this has been a big win for us!

Pretty decent little fan for about 100sqft. It does only last about a year, then it starts to rattle in the motor. Although, to be fair to the cheap little fan, I use it almost year round for the noise becase roomates. So, if you only use it in the summer, you might get two "years" with it. In any case, if you don't mind spending $16.00 every year or so, then this will suffice.
