Tasteless
Bought the Southern version since my store was out of your Honey cornbread. My family was very disappointed in the flavor of this product as it was tasteless. I only buy Krusteaz mixes and will continue to purchase them for pancakes, cornbread and some GF items. Southern cornbread was a big NOT again for our family.

Delicious and flavorful
I absolutely love this specific brand of cornbread. Krusteaz is like way way better than all the other box brands. Seriously! It comes out moist and still bakes with a crispy crust! I even make it in muffins. We usually prefer making it on a thin sheet cake pan so it spreads out and cooks crispier. But still doesn’t taste or feel dry. Honestly I can’t eat my beef stew without it🤭 warm with a little butter. If you prefer fluffy I would say use a muffin pan. They look so pretty like cupcakes. Taste delicious too. Keeping a box of these in the pantry during winter is a must lol

Dry
I hate to do this but texture is rough, taste is non existent, dry. You could probably spice it up with adding your own touch to it but I wanted southern style cornbread that was easy to whip together and this ain’t it!

Krusteaz Southern Corn Bread & Muffin Mix provides
Krusteaz Southern Corn Bread & Muffin Mix is the best out there. This rating is a 5 when you add a small can of sweet corn. Even though it costs less than other brands, I always get compliments about the texture and taste, and then I end up bringing out the box, so my guests can snap a picture.

Best corn bread mix ever!!
Hands down the best cornbread mix I've ever tried & I've tried a bunch. I read this Southern variety didn't have much sugar so I was excited to try it since every other mix is too sweet. This is perfect!! Especially if you want to add savory ingredients like jalapenos & cheese. The bread is light & moist—not dry like so many corn breads. I greased my muffin tins & dusted with cornmeal.

The question: To be Sweet or Not To Be Sweet?
I bought a box of the Southern Cornbread mix today to have with chili. I haven't made it yet, but have been reading the reviews. "Too sweet" or "Perfect!" seem to be the opinions here, with more saying perfect. I,too, live in the South and am here to tell you, sometimes cornbread is sweet and other times it isn't! Every home baker and restaurant cook has a recipe, and really, they're usually all fine. Since I've had BOTH many times, I don't think it's accurate to say true Southern cornbread is not sweet.....because sometimes, it IS!

Perfect option for a non-sweet cornbread.
I went out on a limb when I bought the southern style mix, as I usually go for the honey. They are wonderful as muffins, perfectly portioned, but are not on the sweet side at all. I think this product would be a perfect match for a chili or stew as they are a more salty/hearty flavor. This is a bemread/muffin mix that I will continue to buy, dies not disappoint. Perfect option for a non-sweet cornbread.

Great base recipe mix - then spice it up
Love using the skillet method and we add drained Rotel and Shredded cheese and onions - it's simple easy and the family loves this version -

Great texture, high rise, excellent taste
I just found this cornbread after years of trying from scratch and using jiffy (doesn’t rise). This cornbread reminds me of my mother’s and grandmother’s cornbread from years ago.

Excellent
I live in Alabama and I'm here to tell ya. This IS real southern cornbread. Great taste, wonderful texture. The only thing I do different then the instructions is put in 3 eggs instead of 2.

Best cornbread mix on the market!
Reminds me of my grandmother’s cornbread. I add a quarter cup of sugar to the batter, bake it for 22 minutes at 375 in a pre-heated cast-iron skillet (which I melt a pat of butter in before I pour in the batter), then change the oven to broil and leave it in for an additional minute to get a nice browned top. After serving I use a little honey butter and YUMMY!

Bland
I was disappointed in this product. I've used their blueberry muffin mix and it was good. This was very bland.

Not Southern at all!
With the distance between Seattle and Atlanta being close to 3,000 miles, it’s not surprising that these people have no idea what Southern Cornbread is. Everyone in the South knows that you don’t make cornbread with sugar! Krusteaz seems to have a myriad of cornbread mixes in the grocery store, ALL of which are full of sugar. It’s almost impossible to tell them apart. Why do they bother to call this one “Southern “cornbread when it doesn’t even pretend to be from the South? It’s an insult to Southerners. They should just go ahead and change its name to.””Sugar Bread” and stop insulting our Southern heritage. True Southern cornbread is savory. Not sweet. Period.

Excellent Cornbread added some Jalapenos
I'm not exactly sure which version of the Krusteaz cornbread my wife bought but in baking diced up and added a couple of Jalapenos from our garden. I thought it was excellent and have had it for the last couple days. Twice with just some milk poured on it and today for lunch with fruit salad atop the cornbread. I think Krusteaz beats the other cornbread mixes hands down. Next baking will be with blueberries from the garden.

I've used Jiffy most of my whole adult life...
Why? Because thats what my mom used of course! As I get older my palate has continued to develop. Over the past 6-8years or so I have gotten less and less fond of jiffy, but considering the only time I use cornmeal is for cornbread it isn't worth it to me to buy it every time I make cornbread as I only make it a handful of times each year. So I went on the hint for another box mix I could stomach. Jiffy was what I grew up on as my mother isn't fond of cooking and openly refers to herself as a "box cook" meaning everything always starts with a box/can, or frozen package that only needs basic things added... Stuff like hamburger/tuna helper etc... I only the other hand have a love for cooking but not the time I wish I had to do so, so I cut corners where I can and focus on the main aspects of the meal... Usually the protein and vegetable dishes. So long story short I have tried every cornbread mix available to me and Krusteaz is by far the best tasting and preferred texture for us. I don't like the type of cornbread that crumbles apart and sticks to your throat going down.... It always makes me cough at some point unless I use it to soak up broth or something. So for us this stuff is awesome! We love the soft moist consistency and the different styles to make either a savory or sweet cornbread depending. The kids love the southern style with some diced jalapeños and cheese thrown in, sometimes corn too with a pot of beans or 15bean soup... Or the honey style for something sweet with spicy food like chili.... Its worth the cost difference to us to get this brand and I will continue to buy it! We all love it.

It was easy to
It was easy to make and clear directions. Tasted great too. I love cornbread with chili. My favorite way to eat it is cut in the middle with butter and lots of honey.
