Q: does any part the system pass waterthrough filter containing copper? does this potentially allow copper levels to raise? Eco filter brand adds 6x copper cuz it passes through filter containing copper.

submitted by spring cleaner - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. No part of the LifeStraw Home system—including the membrane or carbon filters—passes water through any component made of or containing copper. As a result, the filtration process does not introduce copper into the water. In fact, the activated carbon and ion exchange resin used in our filters are designed to reduce heavy metals, including copper, if present in the source water. I hope this helps answer your question!

Q: Do the unopened cartridges dry out after how many months in storage?Do cartridges fit all your pitchers & counter top models? doesn't bacteria build up if you do not refrigerate pitcher after filling?

submitted by spring cleaner - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Thank you for your questions. I hope I can help clarify. Shelf Life of Unopened Filters: Our carbon + ion exchange filters do not have a shelf life if left unopened and stored in a cool, dry place. Filter Compatibility: The carbon + ion exchange filter is compatible with all LifeStraw Home models, including glass and BPA-free plastic pitchers and dispensers. It’s a universal fit across our countertop-style products. Bacteria Buildup Without Refrigeration: Once the pitcher is filled, we recommend using the filtered water within 24–48 hours if it's kept at room temperature. Refrigeration helps slow any potential bacterial growth, especially in warmer environments. If not refrigerated, we suggest refreshing the water daily for best taste and safety. Let us know if you need help with anything else.

Q: Can these filters be left to dry out and then beginning to use quite a time later- like 3 weeks? Or do these filters need to remain in use (wet) continuously?

submitted by Lisa - 2 years ago
  • A: For durations less than a couple of months they can be dried out and stored in a sealable, airtight container or bag. If you're going to be storing this for more than two months we recommend replacing the carbon filter when your resume use.

Easy to Install, Water tastes so much better

This was the first time replacing this filter. It was easy to install. Now water runs quickly through the filter and tastes so much better. I'm glad I replaced the filter. Shipped quickly.

    Isn’t leaking

Large enough that you aren’t having to refill as often. So far it hasn’t been leaking like the smaller version did

    Mixed feelings

For me, the water tastes great. Overall, I like the thing, but here's my problem. The spout has a very slow leak that started right away. I kept mine on the counter and had to move it to catch the drops that were spilling on the floor as not all of my housemates are good at watching for it. I've kept using the thing after moving it and have been happy enough with it.

The pitcher cracks after a few months

I really wanted to like this pitcher, but unfortunately, it cracked after a couple of months. They sent me a replacement that lasted a little longer, but after 6 months or so, it also cracked even though I was placing it over some rubber base to limit the impact over the counter. I had pitchers from other brands and this never happened, not even after years of use.

    great product

super sleek and beautiful design! the glass keeps my water colder than the plastic jug I was using before. The filter is slow but honestly, as is to be expected when it filters so much garbage out (It sped up over time also) Overall awesome. It is taller than you would think so maybe measure if you have a small fridge.

    Design needs improvement

The holes in the water catching container cause spills. The spout on the dispenser is also not very good. The whole container moves back whenever spout is pushed. Also the spout should not be so flush with the body of the dispenser, it should stick out so the dispenser doesn't have to be perched over the edge of the counter to get water.

Love it, but one question. . .

The system takes every bit of chloring taste out of the water. I would like one question answered, however. Does it filter bacteria like ecoli or gaurdia?

I'm happy with this purchase so far. Initially the taste was a little weird. . it had somewhat of an aftertaste. Either I got used to it or it went away after around 2-3 pitcher's. . . after the 2-3 pitchers you toss initially. A lot of people have written about the slow filtering process. It is a bit slow, but that hasn't bothered me.

    Great product and company!

Bought a new dispenser recently and due to my clumsiness it broke while removing it from the box. The company was incredibly kind and sent me a replacement (I’d only asked for a replacement of one part). They replied quickly, too. Using this dispenser gives me peace of mind and I’ll never be without a LifeStraw filter for the water I drink.

    I think it's remarkable to

I think it's remarkable to have a relatively inexpensive, passive filtration system that removes bacteria as well as non-organic impurities. It does not remove the tannins that are in our water, but that's a minor issue.

    Second one that leaks

I’m very disappointed with this product. I ordered one in November 2025. After a few months it started leaking at the bottom where a small crack appeared. Re ordered last month and the same thing happened except this time after a few weeks only. This product is not made for everyday use in a busy household. Very sad as I really the look of it.

    Works but not sustainable

Filters work great but I hate having to throw them out. It would be great for the company to create a recycling program for old filters.

    Love, except. .

I really like the size and shape of this filter and dispenser. The blue looks Great. The one thing, it actually happens with all dispensers after some time, even with indirect northern light, is algae growth. I wish they'd make a fitted COVER to fit over the whole thing to block the light. I use various improvised light blockers at this time but a fitted cover would be amazing. That's the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

The dispenser does not always close tightly. Found a mess in the refrigerator. Other than that good product.
