A: Root Perfection is a permanent color that will last until it grows out. You will typically find that you need to touch up your roots again in 3-6 weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. Although the color is permanent, some fading over time is normal. You might need to refresh the color through your mid-lengths and ends every 8-12 weeks.

A: Root Perfection is not specifically formulated to be mixed with other shades. However, an easy way to accomplish a similar result to what you are looking for, is to adjust the processing time. If you are looking for a deeper version of 6N, we'd recommend starting with 6N and extending the processing time by an additional 5 minutes, for a total of 15 minutes. The longer it processes, the darker it will go. Just keep in mind that we do not recommend processing for longer than 15 minutes. If, after processing for 15 minutes, you find that the color still isn't deep enough or doesn't provide the coverage you're looking for, we recommend trying 5N the next time.

A: Yes, the Root Perfection Root Touch-Up Kit is a permanent hair color that provides 100% full gray coverage. If your hair is resistant, we recommend letting the color process for an additional 5 minutes (15 minutes total) for optimal coverage.

A: Hello! Madison Reed Hair Color is SLS free. SLS is a surfactant, meaning it lowers the surface tension between ingredients and creates the lather often associated with shampoo and other hair products. However, SLS is also known to strip the protein from hair, depleting the hair and scalp of beneficial protective oils. Products containing harsh surfactants like SLS are also known to contribute to color fade. In severe instances, SLS can also irritate the scalp, causing redness, dryness and itching. For this reason, we never use sodium lauryl sulfate in our products, opting instead to use sodium laureth sulfate, a gentler alternative. Sodium laureth sulfate is also used in our formulas to ensure a full, even application of color, and total removal of color from the scalp and hair while rinsing.

A: The formula is good for 72 hours after opening to allow time to perform a patch test prior to applying to your hair. Directions on how to mix and apply a patch test are listed in the instructions. The kit contains enough product for one application. Root Perfection is specifically designed to target visible regrowth at the “T-zone" area of the hair (hairline and part line) for a quick and easy touch-up.

A: Our Root Touch Up formula is free of harsh ingredients like ammonia, PPD, resorcinol, and parabens. The formula is enriched with keratin, argan oil, and ginseng root extract, which help condition the hair during the color process. When used as directed, it will not damage or weaken the hair. Since the product is designed to only color your natural regrowth, and is not applied to the lengths where the hair is already color-treated, this aids in less chemical processing to your hair all over from roots to ends.

A: Yes. If you don’t need to use the full tube of color, you can mix half of the color with half of the activator in a non-metallic bowl or an empty activator bottle. Once mixed, the formula begins to oxidize, so it must be used right away. Be sure to tightly reseal the remaining unmixed color tube and activator with their caps and store them in a dry place at room temperature. When stored properly, the unused portions will remain usable for up to 6 months.
