Q: Foes this ke squirrels away?

A: I bought this to keep squirrels off an outdoors bird feeder. I doused the top of the feeder and its support pole with spray. It did not work at all in that case. However, the feeder smells nice.

It could be worth a try, but I would not use the spray as the primary method of protection.

A: Hello, thank you so much for reaching out. We find that with raccoons if they are trying to get food, they will ignore their dislike for our peppermint products, but it's worth a try. Unfortunately, we do not have a product specifically to repel raccoons. However, we have had customers with similar issues. A: Hello Alex, Thanks for reaching out. I want to reassure you that this product is safe to use around pets, when used as directed. In some situations, peppermint could be harmful to animals at high doses (for example, ingested pure peppermint essential oil). However, our products contain 4% peppermint oil in the ready-to-use formula. Pets may not like the smell of the peppermint, but after it is applied, it is virtually impossible for them to be exposed to toxic levels. Other than a few squirrels this didn’t deter a thing. We had plenty of chipmunks, squirrels, a skunk, and a groundhog. It Wasn’t until I used this product that I’ve now attracted a large mouse to my yard. I’ve reapplied every other day. They go right to that spot. Use Lysol it’s better !!!

I had been dousing the engine compartment of my Toyota 4Runner with Mighty Mint spray regularly since rodents last did $9K+ in damage to wiring previously. I can now say that it does NOTHING to repel the wiring chewing critters. I know because I did a fresh application after discovering new damage yesterday morning and in an effort to keep more damage from occurring. Less than 24 hours later, I found a very fresh/large nest in the same spot where there had just been chewed wires again.

Too soon to see if it works. At first the smell was ok and smelled like peppermint. But it quickly turned into something unpleasant. Luckily I sprayed it on cotton balls in a cup so I could throw it out. I will continue to test it outside around the trash can.

This spray made me nauseous and caused my lungs to hurt. I’m shocked this company has listed this product as safe because that concentration of peppermint oil is definitely not safe for pets or inhaling indoors. This seemed slightly effective but dangerous and not as safe as they claim. Peppermint oil is never safe for kids or dogs (regardless of whether it’s “natural”), so it doesn’t make sense that this would be pet-safe based on that alone. Reading the other reviews, it seems like it caused several pets to be sick. The label even has a warning saying that people who “dislike strong scents” may be sensitive to the smell, but it seems like this includes the potential for airborne allergic reactions.

Let me start by saying this is not a cure-all for a mice issue, you need to also use traps/poison, and keep the house clean. But this stuff really does help keep mice out of problem areas. We had a horrible rodent problem at our house and this spray and the use of traps cleared the issue in a week. Before this they would avoid the traps and continue leaving droppings around, but since the use of this there has been no more sightings or droppings. Smells really nice too, and I like that it’s pet safe.
