Description
The OXO SoftWorks 5-Pound Food Scale with Pull-Out Display is perfect for portioning meat, produce, spices and more. Weigh items directly on the platform, on a plate or in a bowl. The display pulls away from the base to prevent shadowing from large containers. A weight indicator shows the capacity left on the Scale before the 5-pound maximum is reached. Press the Zero button to offset the weight of a container or to set the weight back to zero before adding additional ingredients. The display features large, easy-to-read numbers in 1/8-ounce (US) and 1-gram (metric) increments. The platform removes for quick cleaning by hand and the Scale’s thin profile stores easily. Includes four AAA batteries.

Q: Does the scale measure out grams to a decimal point. So if I needed 17.5g, will it measure like that, or is it even gram measurements like 17g or 18g?

A: Thanks for your question! Sadly, our 5-lb Food Scale does not measure fractions of a gram. This scale measures in 1-gram increments.

Q: Is there any way to calibrate the scale? By calibrate, I don't mean tare or zeroing out, I mean calibrating with a known weight.

I was initially a bit hesitant to buy this because other reviewers said it went through batteries like crazy. But they were relying on the Auto-Turn-Off feature, if you just hold down the power button when you're done with it, it turns off right away. I've had this for a year and it's been wonderful! (And I haven't had to change out the batteries even once haha). Easy to use and easy to clean. I recommend keeping the box/packaging so it stays safe and clean when out of use/stored in the cabinet.

this thing is great.
i've had this for several years, using it sporadically at first but multiple times a day, lately. it's quick, accurate, and pleasant to use. a lot of the low reviews are whining about the lack of auto-off feature. i don't know what's so difficult about holding the power/zero button down for a few seconds, it's really not that difficult. again, i've had this for years and i'm still on my first set of batteries. some folks are just really nitpicky and/or lazy. ignore them. this is a great device. i have several products from OXO and this one is as good as the rest. highly recommended.

Uses too many batteries, nice design though
I do not like how many batteries it’s used and you can’t manually turn off the scale to save battery. I have the silver version. I’ve had it for about 3 months using it 1-2 times a week and have had to replace the batteries. Pros: design is nice, the screen is LED but that is a con too. Makes it use more battery. I would not buy it again. I’m happier with the crappy $10 scale that I’ve had forever and never had to replace the battery.

This thing works great! I use it for shipping small items. Prior to purchasing I read reviews that it doesn’t have an automatic “off” function and that people were going through batteries quickly. All you need to do is hold down the power button for a few seconds and it turns off. I’ve never had a battery issue.

Battery hog
This scale is accurate and has both metric and Imperial units. However, the automatic shutoff does not work, and this means that it goes through 4 AAA batteries extremely quickly. I had had this scale less than a year and have gone through dozens of batteries. It needs to be replaced.

No auto off feature, 4 AAA's - Kills batteries
Hate this!! It never shuts off even though I recall the box saying it will. All the other food scales have an auto off feature. I will most likely return this to the store.
