Remove plaque and experience a deep, effective clean with Sonicare technology, removing up to 7x more plaque vs. a manual toothbrush. Sonicare technology gently pulses water between your teeth, for a month's worth of manual brushing in just 2 minutes. The QuadPacer lets you know when you've spent the optimal amount of time on each section of your mouth while the SmarTimer signals when your 2 minutes is up. The pressure sensor flashes red to remind you to ease off, helping to prevent gum recession, while the 2 intensity settings ensure a comfortable clean that’s right for you. Going electric might feel like a big step, but with this brush you’re in safe hands. Its slim ergonomic design and familiar-shaped head gives you everything you need for an effective clean. The kit includes 1 Philips Sonicare 4100 electric toothbrush, 1 Optimal Plaque Control (C2) brush head and 1 USB charging cable (wall adaptor not included).

Q: Does this plug into the wall socket? In the picture it looks like a USB. Who has a USB at their bathroom sink?!?

submitted by Screen Name - 3 years ago
  • A: The new toothbrush will almost assuredly work in your old charger base, too; and you won't have to defer to the new USB one. Keep it, though. I'm not an electrician and, in theory, I could be wrong.

submitted byTxasslm - 1 year ago
  • A: I bought an adapter plug that has both the usb plugin and a standard outlet plugin. It cost me $9.99, its a simple and cheap fix.

submitted byWayne - 11 months ago
  • A: Companies useUSB on the end of their power cables because it is a low voltaga connection, therefore they do not need to seek the same certifications as a regular plug, therefore making it cheaper.

submitted byDEA - 1 year ago
  • A: yes, this is so unnecessary. I wish to have a normal plug, especially for bathroom to have usb to have extra option for water access, I am surprised they want to take that risk for few cents to keep

submitted byQuality - 3 years ago
  • A: It’s usb need a charger to plug into outlet

    submitted byCate325 - 7 months ago
  • A: Embrace change. It's going to happen anyway. Resistence to the USB is you keeping one foot in the past and no foot in the future, leaving you in a flamingo stance. Do the bridge in all things.

Q: How often should one change heads ?

submitted by Jess - 4 months ago
  • A: Hello! It is recommended to replace your Philips Sonicare Brush Head every three months of normal use (brushing twice a day) or when the blue indicator bristles wear out.

submitted byPhilips Consumer Care - 4 months ago
  • A: The indicator says every 3 months. Most heads come with a colored indicator to change and if you get heads that have the “brush sync” technology the toothbrush will actually alert you to this.

submitted byzoomzoom - 3 months ago
  • A: Hello! It is recommended to replace your Philips Sonicare Brush Head every three months of normal use (brushing twice a day) or when the blue indicator bristles wear out. One reason is that brush heads can get weary and will be less effective in removing plaque.

This feature gently increases the power over the first 14 brushings to help you adapt to brushing with a Philips Sonicare toothbrush. To deactivate EasyStart feature, follow the instructions below: 1. Put the handle on the plugged-in charger. 2. Press and hold the power on/off button while the handle remains on the charger. 3. Keep the power on/off button pressed until you hear a single short beep (after 3 seconds). Triple tone of high-med-low means the EasyStart feature has been deactivated. The battery level indicator light will blink amber 1 time to confirm deactivation.

After 3 months of use, the battery stopped charging despite resting on clean charger and placed correctly. The toothbrush works for a minute or so and then the orange charge light comes on, beeps and toothbrush stops. Positive features were the seamless design of the brush which made it easy to keep clean and there were 2 power options.

I’ve had this for a few months, and it’s not great. The previous model of this brand was larger and had much more power. I feel like this one barely cleans my teeth. I’ll be buying a different brand once I’ve got the money. Not impressed by this.

1 reply from Answered by Philips team - 7 days ago
Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with the Philips Sonicare 4100 Plaque Control Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, model HX3681/21. We understand that its single high-intensity setting might not be ideal for those with more sensitive mouths. In cases like this, we recommend trying a softer brush head or adjusting your brushing technique to reduce sensitivity. Alternatively, you might consider Philips Sonicare models that offer adjustable intensity settings for a more tailored brushing experience. If you have further questions or need assistance feel free to reach out to us. Your satisfaction is very important to us. We are available on social media, Facebook/Instagram (@Philips) or X (@PhilipsCare). If you don't use social media, you can also get in touch via our contact page ( https://www.usa.philips.com/c-w/support-home/support-contact-page ). Best regards, Philips Consumer Care

I bought this same model toothbrush in 2020 and loved it. It was very powerful, stayed charged for ages, and left my teeth feeling very clean. What the heck is this new model?! It’s about 30% smaller in size, feels like a lightweight plastic piece of junk, and 1/10th the power and weight of the older version! It doesn’t even feel like it’s doing anything, you have to brush as aggressively as you would with a manual/non-electric toothbrush to get any cleaning done. It’s sooo soft and powerless - it actually feels like the battery is dying. At first I thought it was lol And what is the USB charger for? Who has a USB port in their bathroom? Cheapskates. If costs are going up, why not just charge more for the product? Instead of significantly reducing quality to this pathetic cheap piece of junk. Hey Target - it’s wrong of you to keep product reviews on the old version, misleading customers to purchase an entirely new design.

I've used Philips Sonicare Items for many years. This latest toothbrush is light weight and easy to use. The only draw back is the USB charger. I don't know many people who have a USB port in their bathroom so you'll need an adaptor. Otherwise, it cleans well with just the right amount of pressure.
ease of use: 4 out of 5

    value: 5 out of 5
