It has a pressure sensor that protects teeth and gums from excess brushing pressure. Brush heads wear out over time. Our BrushSync technology tracks how long you have been using your Optimal Gum Care brush head and how hard you have been brushing. Your electric toothbrush will beep to inform you when to replace your brush head. Customize your own brushing experience with your choice of 3 modes: Clean, White and Gum Care. The easy-start feature slowly increases the power of the brush as you get used to the Sonicare experience and the smartimer encourages a full 2 minutes brushing time as recommended by your dental professional. The battery charge indicator light lets you know when it is time recharge; 2 week battery life. The last one excessively so My latest seems more "normal" and does a good job doing its job. Fingers crossed

Defect in product.
Very disappointed... While the toothbrush function is good, the vibration is very strong but it must be too strong. I've had the same defect in this toothbrush twice. The vibration is so strong that it loosens the internal parts. The metal pin that holds the brush head gets loose and makes a terribly loud noise and eventually stops vibrating. I've had it replaced once already and the replacement has the same issue. I hate to have to buy a new one but it is just past the 2 year warranty period. So beware when you buy this, dont write a glowing review right away.. wait to see if yours holds up for more than a year before it has to be replaced.

Best toothbrush, hands down
I have been using this style toothbrush for years and years. I get so many complements on my white teeth! The toothbrush has 3 settings which I really like because I have some dental issues that can cause pain. Using a lower setting really helps reduce and pain, while still effectively cleaning my teeth. The battery lasts for soooo long. I can't even remember how long I had my previous toothbrush and base, but I know it's been at least 5 years since I've had to replace anything but the head. This is one of the most durable toothbrushes that I have ever used. It survives water submersion and lots of drops. I got this pink this time, which I LOVE!

This new one is not as comfortable to hold as my old one. It has a feature to let you know that you are pushing too hard, in my opinion this one is too sensitive. It does a great job of cleaning my teeth and I like the extra time to concentrate on the gums.

Great massaging my gums and cleaning and whitening my alot better than my entry level brush. The brush has alot of great features that will help improve your dental care. I use mine with the sonicare flosser.

Made Me a Fan of Electric Toothbrushes
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My dentist recommended this toothbrush to me. To be honest, I've never been a big fan of electric toothbrushes. I have a small mouth, and electric toothbrushes usually have a huge head that makes it difficult for me to brush. Not this one. The head is small, and it cleans my teeth better than any manual toothbrush could. I hope my hygienist will see the difference my next cleaning appointment.

It's definitely been a comical experience! Brushing my teeth however hasn't been too bad of an experience as I think it has been easier since purchasing my Sonicare 5100. If I had another toothbrush I don't think it would have a good experience!
