submitted byAnita - 5 years agoTarget staff supportA: It would be my recommendation to NEVER ingest Epsom salts with additives and/or essential oils even though it is gluten free. Lavender should only be taken internally under the care and direction of a qualified naturopathic professional. It can be toxic at certain levels. Otherwise…products for external use do not need to be gluten free even for the most sensitive celiacs. Gluten only affects the internal digestive system via ingestion…it is not absorbed through the skin.

Dry volume of Epsom salts vary with grain size, but on average 1 cup by volume is about 8.5-9 ounces by weight. A fair estimate is in fact 3-6 average baths worth in this 48 ounce bag.

If you have sensitive skin, I do not recommend this. Since becoming pregnant my skin has become more sensitive and this stuff irritates it. It does smell wonderful though and I can see why it would be great for others.

They recently changed the packaging. I assumed the smell would be the same but when I opened the package it smelled completely different! It used to be a nice pure lavender smell, but now it smells heavily perfumed, like patchouli and other oils. I checked the ingredients, and sure enough it now has bergamot, citrus, and patchouli! I will be buying the Dr. Teal’s brand from now on. It’s disappointing because this was a nice, cheaper, alternative.

This has been my absolute favorite epsom salt for yearsssss the best lavender scent out there. Recently they changed it with bergamot and citrus oils and it smells soooo bad. Won’t be buying anymore which makes me so sad!! I hope they bring back the OG smell
