Choppy Read
As an artist, I really like the artwork in this book. The pictures of the babies are artsy and cute. I also appreciate the depiction of African American characters. However, there isn't a smooth flowing storyline. I thought the book would be teaching baby to count. Maybe go through counting fingers and toes or identifying bodyparts/ everyday items? Instead it was a choppy read for me. It talks about "counting charms" or "making wishes" or "1,2,3,4 touch your nose" but I don't see a real flow that baby can actually understand and relate to everyday life. I wish the author made it more educational or even an actual storyline? If you don't mind making up a story to connect each page, or make up stuff to do to make it more understandable for your baby, then this is for you. If you want a storyline, this may not be for you. I still recommend it because everyone has different tastes for different reasons. But it missed the mark "for me".
