Book Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide...

Jess needs a fresh start. She's broke and alone, and she's just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn't sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn't say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up - to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? - he's not there.

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother's situation, and the more questions she has. Ben's neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it's starting to look like it's Ben's future that's in question.

The socialite - The nice guy - The alcoholic - The girl on the verge - The concierge

Everyone's a neighbor. Everyone's a suspect. And everyone knows something they're not telling.

Review Quotes

Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None rolled into one...Fans of Christie, Louise Penny, and Ruth Rendell will absolutely love this book."--Library Journal (starred review) on The Guest List

"I didn't think Lucy Foley could top The Hunting Party, but she did! I loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie. A remote, atmospheric island, a wedding no one is particularly happy to be at, old secrets--and a murder. The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong. I can't wait for her next book."--Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient, on The Guest List

"Lucy Foley gets better with every book...The characters leap off the page, the twists are darker and more unexpected, and the setting is straight out of a Gothic novel...Yes, there's a murder, but there's so much more than that. (The twists, I admit, are pretty good too.)"--Marie Claire on The Guest List

"No one may have come to the island intending to murder, but this destination wedding spirals into mayhem when it's slowly revealed that most everyone in attendance is capable of becoming a lusting-for-revenge killer."--Washington Post on The Guest List

"Evoking the great Agatha Christie classics And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express, Lucy Foley's clever, taut new novel, The Guest List, takes us to a creepy island off the coast of Ireland...Foley builds her suspense slowly and creepily, deploying an array of narrators bristling with personal secrets...Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters' pasts. They are all clues."--New York Times Book Review

Great book!

I’m a sucker for a good mystery book with plot twists like this one! Although, some of the plot twists were a little more anticlimactic especially compared to other books of hers like The Guest List. This story was beautiful, I love the different povs throughout. Not the best book I’ve ever read but it’s solid.

Not a good read

Not the best read. I picked her books because the back sounded good and she had a few of them but within the first 10-12 chapters, it just was bad writing

Mysterious and Captivating

This story had me hooked from the start, it’s so mysterious and there were a few plot twist that shocked me. I was fully captivated from the start and could not put it down. I think this book is better then the guest list and the hunting party.

Easy to read mystery novel

This book had surprising plot twist throughout the story. I’ve read many books in life. Very few mystery type books have had me stumped as to the ending of the book. The Paris Apartment achieved that. Looking forward to reading more Lucy Foley novels.

The Paris Apartment

I will say this book is definitely better than The Guest List, but its not a memorial book. It was more enjoyable but took way longer to read simply because it didn't hook me into the story. I like stories who grab and keep my attention, this book, that didn't happen till I only had a few chapters left and then "The End." I tried giving this author another chance with this book but sadly there will not be a third try.

Did not finish

I have tried a few times to read this book, but I couldn’t stick with it. I rarely do not finish a book, but this time, I had to. The characters were boring. This author normally has fantastic books, but this book had the main character vanish, but not really any build up after that.

Buy it

Loved it and the audio book is even better with the narrator doing the characters accents! I loved the plot and was invested in each and every character

Snoozefest.

There were no cliffhangers, no “ah-ha” moments, nothing thrilling. This story was as bland as cardboard flavored oatmeal. This story was so bad, even the cover is trying to get away from it (also, take that as a complaint as the book, brand new, came to me like this).

There are better thrillers out there

I love thrillers, but I had an incredibly difficult time reading this book. The characters are all unlikeable and hard to connect with and the plot was all over the place. First time reading a book by this author but may be the last.

The Paris Apartment

This was so well written and had so many twists and turns. It took me awhile to get through it because you can’t skim or you miss out on critical details. Very entertaining but meant to be enjoyed not rushed.

Forgettable.

The plot is good like most of the author’s books but it fell flat in some areas and it got good by the end but then it was over. Wouldn’t recommend. I paused so many times because it just wasn’t engaging.

Lucy Foley does it again!

I was hesitant going into this Lucy Foley book since I didn’t love the Hunting Party. But this one did not disappoint!! This book still followed Foleys typical writing style with its multiple POVs but with a twist. Instead of trying to figure out who’s dead at the end we know from the beginning who has gone missing and we follow along with the main character Jess as she tries to figure out what happened to her brother, Ben. If you’re a fan of Lucy Foley I recommend giving this book a read! It was a quick read and it kept me guessing the entire time. I was able to pick up on hints throughout the book, but I never felt 100% sure I knew who was behind what which I really enjoy.
