Poor quality edition
This review addresses the quality of the book binding not the story itself. When I opened the book to read, the first 20 or so pages just fell out. As I read, more pages came loose from the binding. Find another edition or wait for a reprint.

Fascinating and Eye-Opening
This was a fascinating story! I would never have thought that a woman, and one who was passing, built and managed one of the world's most outstanding private collections of rare books and manuscripts, for her employer, the powerful financier, J.P. Morgan. Bella, the librarian, J.P. Morgan, and others in the art world, finance, and high society sprang to life in this book. Though it is historical fiction, the lasting influence of Bella da Costa Greene's work as a highly accomplished librarian is factual. Since reading "The Personal Librarian" the Morgan Library and Museum is high on my list of places to visit in the near future.

The very best historical fiction
Incredible story here -- absolutely fascinating history about JP Morgan -- but the heart of this novel is Belle, of course. What a life. What a secret.

Fascinating historical fiction
Loved the theme of the primary character having such a great secret. Good insight into JP Morgan’s life of unprecedented wealth as well as the bigoted views of the time.
