Learning Resources Pop for Blends Card Game: Educational Creative Thinking Activity for 2-4 Players

Great addition to the series. Even older kids enjoy it.

My grandson loves playing games and ones that involve learning are the best! Often he doesn't even realize that he is learning!

Need more like this for digraphs etc.

My students love to play all 3 of these games. They have learned so much by just having fun!!!

I use this to reinforce phonics in primary age pupils can be used in a variety of ways we play it by turning a card over and using the blend .They add it to a word family that they have been working on ie sp+ ear. = spear the winner is the pupil with most correct spelling or sounding. If we have more time we play the game with the popcorn cards but only when I've time to deal with disappointed losers !

Pop for Blends is a fun phonics game that is simple to learn and fun to play. I loved that I could just take off the plastic wrapping, read the brief directions posted on the side of the box, and begin playing. I couldn't wait until school to try it out with my students, so my husband and I actually sat at the table and played for about fifteen minutes. There are over 25 different blends and 100 total cards included in this game. Additionally, there are two different ways you can play.

I would really have liked a list of the sounds included on the website as I was a little disappointed to not get vowel digraphs.

What a fun and engaging center for the kids to participate in!!! There are over 25 different blends included in the game. And there are multiple ways to play, which helps with differentiation! This game is a fabulous way to keep the kids engaged in a meaningful activity, as well as teaching them teamwork and cooperation! It's a win-win situation!

Pop for Blends is a new game from Learning Resources. Some of the most fun games aren't created directly for SLP's but can easily be adapted from 'reading/writing' games into articultion games! Learning Resources provided SpeechRoomNews with copy of the game, but the opinions in this review are strictly mine. The game in it's original form targets begining blends and digraphs. Students are given a spinner and popcorn kernals. They take turns drawing popcorn pieces from the popcorn box, saying as many words as indicated on the spinner. For example if they spin 3 and draw 'bl', they could say 'blue, blanket, black.' Students keep correct cards and seperate 'un-popped' cards (ones they can't complete!) If they draw a 'POP!" card - all their kernals go back into the box! To use this activity with articulation clients, I first sorted the kernals. I sorted into Sblends, L blends, R blends and 'other.' The 'other' category included digraphs (sh, th, wh) and some other blends (ie: tw). Now I can easily create a game by only selecting certain sounds. For my student this week we played with just S blends and L blends. If I was working with older students working on the /r/ sound, I could use the R blends with the digraphs added as foils. For the price it's a great activity that the kids liked!

One of the greatest thing about being a home schooling mom is the opportunity to show your child "love" by teaching them. Playing games and having time together is a big blessing of home schooling. Working with Learning Resources and having the opportunity to review amazing products is another great blessing! We were recently sent the Pop for Blends game which is a simple to learn and fun to play learning game. Pop for Blends looks like a little box of popcorn and the pieces are all in the shape of kernels. You spin the wheel and whatever never it lands on is the number of words with that specific blend you need to come up with. For instance if you spin the #3 and choose the blend "BL" then you can come up with words like "block, blind and bland". It was a great way to keep the girls entertained and learning. Frankly I was surprised at how much they already knew. Of course, like every item I have received from Learning Resources...it was exceptional, well made, fun and affordable. Valentine's is about love and what better way to love on your child then to help them love to learn!
