Amazing shine and perfect hold that held and defined my curls. Life changing to have a scent free product. Plus it has outperformed every other gel I have tried over the decades. Fantastic in every way.

I happened to be on the Vanicream site to find another hard-to-locate product and was reading the high and low reviews of this hair gel. For anyone who is confused, I think it is worth pointing out what the gel is and isn't good for. I use it on my hair when it is wet (after wrapping it in a towel) and after adding some leave-in conditioner. The gel is thick but is easy enough to distribute on my wet hair. My gray hair is no longer thick nor plentiful, but I don't use enough to weigh it down. It takes a little experimenting to find the right amount. I scrunch to form curls and leave my hair alone while it dries (or if necessary, dry with a diffuser). After it dries, I gently squeeze my hair all over to break the 'cast.' This leaves my hair soft but retains the curls as I wanted them. I sleep on a silk pillowcase at night, and if my hair is messed up the next morning, a little water and scrunching fixes it. I got this advice from The Curly Girl Handbook, and I'd say this gel is great if you want no fragrance and hair that feels natural, not stiff.

This hair gel is fantastic. It's the only thing like it that I can find for sensitive skin. I have thin straight hair. After shampooing while hair is wet I rub a dime size drop between my hands and run it through my hair then blow dry. Gives me body that stays all day. I can no longer find any other styling product or hair spray that I can use with my allergies so this is a great product for me and anyone else that wants to add body and hold to their hairstyle.

I've been looking for something to make my fine hair fuller and less frizzy when styling it. This is it! Thank you for making it and please continue making it. Also it would be nice if it came in smaller size for travel!

This product has been great for me. My scalp is no longer covered with welts or itching! It holds well and rinses out easily when you want to remove it. I gotta have it because I don't like blow drying my hair, especially in the summer. Ask I do is shampoo, style with gel and DONE.

I use Vanicream soap, face cleanser, moisturizer, conditioner, shampoo and love it all...except this one. I used a quarter-sized amount of hair gel just on my hair — not on my scalp — and by the end of the day my head was itching like crazy. Be careful if you have very reactive skin: this may not be the product for you.

I assist a disabled relative who has extreme sensitivity to scents; she can end up in the hospital. I have very straight hair that sticks up and out without a gel. Free & Clear Hair Gel works well with no flaking and, most importantly, my relative is safe.

WHERE did these reviews come from? I bought this junk in good faith and I might as well use nothing. It is useless, does not add volume or even a bit of stiffness to the hair. After you apply, then dry your hair, it feels and looks like it's working. Within 10 min, it's as if you never used it. Falls flat and hair looks like your just dried it without product. I should have known better. I generally don't trust reviews, esp when they are all positive. Vanicream should stick to face washing.

This is the best hair gel which I have ever used. Doesn't build up AT ALL on the scalp! Gentle enough for daily use. Give really good hold. I have 3a/3b hair and it does hold my curl pattern really well without weighing my hair down.

My fine curly/wavy hair and super sensitive skin love this gel. I only use a little bit on wet hair and it works really well. I get curl definition, minimal frizz, and it doesn't weigh my hair down. The hold isn't strong enough for next day curls, but I really don't care. My hair still feels nice and soft and is just less curly on the second day.

I am black, senior denial. I use the gel on my natural hair. It's fine and short. Also, my hair is gray. I wear it loose. I don't twist or braid or curl. At night, I moisturize my hair with oils. In the morning, I put a small amount of gel in my hands and rub it through my hair. I style with my fingers, mostly, but may use various combs to tweak as I please. I love that it works with my natural curls and it makes my grey hair seem even whiter. My hair stays put without looking frozen in place. It also looks thicker. Once it dries, I will only tug it with my fingers if I want to fix something. At bedtime, I can work in a dab of oil to release the hold. By morning, I repeat. In a few days, I shampoo, protect, blow dry, oil, and gel. Works for me.

This stuff is legit horrible. The reviews have to be from white ppl with thick hair. This stuff is so thick and awful that it coats your hair like quick cement. I tried to cut it with water and it was still just awful. And you have to wash it out every day because the buildup is off the charts. You can't just rinse your hair and hope it comes out. You have to use a clarifying shampoo to get this stuff out of your hair. Not everyone can wash their hair every day with a clarifying shampoo folks. And ftr, it does build up on your scalp. It leaves a thin film of goop that feels awful. If you have scalp issues along with fine or curly hair, skip this garbage because it is HORRIBLE!Maybe try creating an unscented mousse instead of this garbage.

I have been using Free and Clear hair gel for 15 years. It has a great hold. The only product that does not make my head break out. Highly recommended!

This stuff keeps my fauxhawk tall and fluffy all day long. Please make it in the 2oz tube for travel.

This gel does a good job of adding curls to the hair and controls frizziness.

Gel works great. Wish it came in a smaller container to fit in my bathroom cabinet. Travel size would be helpful too.

Excellent product – only issue is that some Walgreens stores do not carry it.
