Q: I bought this item and it came with its own filter. When the filter was replaced, the unit continued to to show the red light (not green, as it should have with a new filter)

  • A: The same thing happened to me. I replaced the filter and the light continues to be red. Also and perhaps more importantly, I've had this less than a year and it already broke. The piece of plastic on the front of the filter with the company name on it came off and several small holes formed so anytime I use the filter water shoots out directly. This product is poor quality.

Q: I bought this filtration system and a 3-pack of the RF-9999 replacement cartridges. The cartridge that came with the unit fit snuggly, the RF-9999s fall out and do not seem to be filtering anything.

When the filter has used at least 70% of its life, the light turns yellow. When the filter has used 100% of its life, the light will turn red. Q: How do you deal with the SLOWEST water flow? I've taken out the filter, soaked it to remove air or sediment, replaced, and this thing is so slow I just give up and use the normal faucet. Help!

Used a water tester and the filtered water from PUR vs tap water both read at 128 ppm. No particles removed with a brand new filter. Used the Zerowater system and tester showed 0. This is a scam in my opinion as it did nothing to improve water quality.

Please be advised that a TDS meter measures conductivity of the charged particles in a liquid, which include salts, minerals and other naturally occurring, harmless dissolved solids. When water is filtered through a PUR Plus filter, it passes over natural minerals which contain charged particles. This can affect the reading of the TDS meter. It should be noted that certain contaminants, like lead, are found at the parts per billion (ppb) level and are too small to be detected on a TDS meter. PUR faucet filters are independently certified by NSF (nsf.org) and WQA (wqa.org) to reduce contaminants. Due to how a TDS meter works, it is not an accurate indication as to the cleanliness or purity of the water. Broke after 3 months

This product worked great for us up until we had to replace the filter. Once we replaced the filter water started spraying from the back of the unit every time it is turned on no matter how much we try to tighten it. We even wasted money buying an additional filter to make sure it wasn't an issue with that so now we put the money for the unit and 2 replacement filters.

We bought this filter last January. It's already breaking. We are only a two person household and replace the filters regularly, not to mention, take good care of this filter. it's now leaking from the top and back, despite trying to tighten it.

We've been using the vertical version for several years and it was great. Needed to replace it and liked how this one looks, but it leaks no matter what you do. I tried 2 of these and even used thread tap, but both leak terribly, sometimes spraying out to the side. I will be buying the other, cheaper version because it actually works.

The older vertical, one-click model is much easier to use on a daily basis than this screw-on model. It constantly comes undone and leaks if you have to move it out of the way (because the horizontal filter portion is in the way).

The plastic design needs improving because it will leak but contact PUR and they will make it right. Also people are complaining that the red light won’t switch to green when changing the filter. This doesn’t mean the filter is bad so stop wasting filters. Reach inside the empty machine and push the button on the faucet side. It’ll pop back out and change the light to green. All that happened is when you removed the old filter, that button didn’t pop out to reset so you can do it manually, super easy fix. All in all it’s a super good filter. If yours leaks water, email pur from their website and they will send you a new one once you provide the receipt and code from your broken machine.

Painfully slow water flow

After many trial/errors and seeking additional faucet adapters, I finally installed the filter correctly with no leaks. However, the water flow is PAINFULLY slow (it takes so long to fill a water bottle I just give up and use the faucet). I tried fixes such as soaking the filter to rid it of air and sediment, but there has been no improvement.

At first glance it was way bigger than I anticipated and had that cheap plastic feel to it... that aside, I still didn't mind the look since the chrome matched perfectly with my faucet. However, no matter what I did or what connector I used, it just leaks and sprays. It also continues to leak well after the water has been turned off. I used a pliers to get everything tight and incorporated the rubber washers and everything, but to no avail this product simply would not work on our standard faucet, unfortunately. Also, the description online said that it comes with 2 filters, but there was only one.

this is garbage. if you turn on the water with the lid off, you will see that the water never goes inside the brand new filter. it actually just leaks out the sides. trash!

Not meant as a solution to less plastic or long term feasability

I bought this filter as I have done many other types. My conclusion has been that these are worse for the environment than they help. Once these degrade or break, they are not recycleable. They cannot be recycled as plastic or metal, so to the landfill they go. The filters you have to buy don't do much to help the environment either. Sorry to say I don't have a solution, but if someone does please share. This particular faucet filter eventually eroded from my hardwater. There were holes from the faucet attachment where non filtered water spewed out. There was residue of calcified white stuff around the rectangular part of the filter. Not sure the solution, but this is not it to lowering the use of plastic when the filters are non-recycleable too.

The PUR filter looks sleek and I like the horizontal design (versus the older vertical one). The only downside is water continues to drip out for a while after shutting off the faucet. Aside from that, I appreciate how the indication light is larger and easier to see.

When your filtered side is disengaged, water may continue to drip from the filter for several seconds as the pressure from the filter housing is released.
