These are realllllly difficult to get apart. Yikes. It took me some time and a lot of concentration and a butter knife. It was also a bit difficult to get on the door knob since all the little parts need to line up and snap right. It took me a couple tries. Anyway. It's on the now. I haven't been able to test if my son (3.5) can get it off, but just the presence of it seems to be enough.
It works great for the standard doorknob I have at my house. Yes it was a little difficult separating the pieces but I figured it out by just using a flat screwdriver to help. I have small hands so I like how the cover isn't too bulky, but it works.. My toddler hates it because now she cannot open our pantry door. LOL!
This is the first time in several years that I am disappointed with a Target product. If there was an option, I would not have even given one star in the rating. The parts are snapped together extremely hard and no proper instructions are given to separate them. If I am to waste ridiculous amount of time in opening a trivial product, it is not worth buying it. Perhaps, they should consider selling the open parts which can be snapped together around the knobs in no time. Really a wastage of time. I am going to return the product to Target. Fortunately, the Target is right across my street.

I was super excited about receiving these door knob covers because my three year old continued to open his door at night. However, it was a challenge to separate the cover and place it on the door knob. I was able to separate one side, but not both. I was still able to put it on the handle, but not close it completely.
If it doesn't fit, make sure you're putting it on facing the correct direction

The people who wrote negative reviews likely put the cover on backwards.
I was nervous about buying this product after reading a number of negative reviews. They mostly said that the knob cover was too small to fit on standard doors or if it did fit, it was so tight that toddlers could still open the door. I had a moment of despair when I put the cover on the door and my 2 year old immediately and easily opened it. But then I realized, the way you are going to want to put this cover on your door is BACKWARDS! I don't know why that was the way I naturally assumed it was supposed to go, but I was wrong. When you open up the device, there are two openings: a large one and a smaller one. It you put the larger opening in the back of the knob (close to the door), the cover won't fit or will be too tight. If you put the smaller opening around the back of the door knob and the larger opening facing outward, the cover spins freely and is childproof.
I was skeptical about this product before I ordered. But once I installed it it works for what it is designed for. My kid is now safe at home!! Sometimes with wet hands I find it difficult myself to open the door. But that's OK. it does the job. It fits my knob easily. I feel its worth the money! Would recommend to try it.
