The adhesive was not strong enough

We use these to keep our dog from using her nose to open and get into the trash. They work well and seem like they will last for long time. One bit of advice - measure before clamping the ends on the thin middle strip. For some reason I assumed it was adjustable (I think we had another brand that was when my kids were little), and clamped it on the short side, now it's a stretch to get it locked/unlocked.

The outside of our oven gets pretty warm when it is on. This results in the glue holding the piece on to that surface melting and the piece popping off. Utterly useless and unsafe when the oven is on... which is when we need it to work most.

Adhesive comes off the plastic parts. My son was able to pull it off within minutes.

Got these to keep our cat from opening bifold doors. The magnet is very strong but the buttons are a bit hard to squeeze with my arthritis.

I was given this baby proofing item to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The Safety 1st All Purpose Straps were very easy to install. They install with an adhesive mount and can stick to just about anything. I like that they were useful in places that were more difficult to baby proof, such as my wall mounted ovens. It's also useful they are adjustable to your particular needs as the strap is long enough to suit a variety of distances between mount bases. They installed in seconds, no need for tools and no permanent damage to cabinets, walls or appliances. The straps are also very easy to use. I like how they were simple to use one handed, which is very important to me as many times I am holding my baby and needing to do things one handed. The only improvement I would make is having them available in different color options. I would love to have an option that was darker to blend in better with my wood cabinets or grey to blend in with my stainless appliances. Other than more color options I have no complaints. I received this product through Stellar Product Testing Panel. Installation was really simple and quick - just clean the surface and apply the sides. Initially the buttons were a little stiff when unlocking, but after a few uses it's pretty easy to unclick. So far my little one has not been able to defeat this product.

I received these all-purpose straps as part of the Stellar Review Panel. I have used these safety straps on drawers, the refrigerator door, and the toilet seat! They stick very well to all surfaces and my toddler hasn't figured out how to open them yet. Just make sure you have enough space for the strap to work - my cabinets were too close to my oven for me to use it there.

Prior to receiving this item, I had a second child that LOVED to open cabinets and doors that he had no business opening! Whether it be a shoe closet, the pantry, or under the sink - he would always explore closed doors! This was new to us, as our first born would never do this and if he did, he would stop when we asked him to. Basically, he knows his boundaries! Because of this, we thought we would be those parents that did not have to "baby proof" our house. Boy, were we wrong. When we found our second kiddo foraging through the cabinet under the sink, where we traditionally keep some household cleaners / chemicals, we panicked. He would not stop and we did not know what to do! Thankfully, we were made aware of this simple, easy to use solution to our problem. Having not baby proofed before, we have used four of them initially - one for each cabinet door under the sink, one for the pantry (our second born LOVES to raid it and open every box and spill food everywhere!) and one for the shoe / coat closet. The straps were so easy to install, with pre-installed adhesive on it and no fuss. You simply peel the adhesive sticker on each side (lock side and anchoring side) and stick them to the wall / surface. You then route the plastic strap through the anchoring piece, and click the locking end in place. After that, the lock is very easy to open and close, as all you do is pinch the sides of the lock and it simply opens / closes. Incredible! Once installed, the lock is consistently easy to use and best of all, it WORKS! My kiddo cannot open them and they stay in place without issue. The adhesive appears to be strong, and it is claimed that it will not damage surfaces when removed. I have not yet had to remove one yet, but I trust that this is correct. Overall, I cannot recommend this item enough and I am very pleased that I stumbled across it!

I was looking forward to have found a product that would prevent my nephew from opening our stove and dishwasher as he is always opening the dishwater. The installation was pretty easy, all self explanatory. When I first opened the package it had a strong odor. Once installed it didn't take long before my nephew pulled the strap and it came off. I'm not sure if I got a faulty strap or the adhesive tape wasn't strong enough for my 2.5 year old nephew. Unfortunately, it didn't keep him from opening the dishwasher or stove for long. The straps were easy to install and they looked nice but it didn't work for us.

My family received this product through Stellar Product Testing Panel, and we're so happy for this find! My first baby is 6 months old and has just started to crawl. These straps have made baby proofing for the first time so easy! The straps are very easy to install and the dual press release function makes it easy for adults to use. We were impressed with the strength of the bond of the adhesive backing. Once attached, we pulled on the cabinet doors with force and the straps held and were very secure. We are very happy with this product and will be purchasing more for other rooms in our home.

These are much nicer/sleeker looking than the generic straps we had previously purchased - see comparison photo, with safety 1st on the bottom. The strap is thick and seems like it with hold up well. Installation is easy (just peel and stick). The opening mechanism is also easy for an adult but challenging for kids- my 1.5 year old cannot open it, and I doubt she will be able to for many years. It does stick out a little further from the wall thank other brands, which may pose a challenge in some spaces. No issue for us, however. We use these for drawers, doors, windows, the chest freezer- they are super versatile! I received this product for free as part of the Stellar Testing Panel, but all thoughts are my own!

I received this baby proofing from the stellar review panel when my child was 7 months old. She just started crawling and pulling up and we saw how unprepared our house was for the next stage. These were a quick install for us. We started with the trash cans. It was easy for us adults to open, but still difficult for little fingers. It came with the added bonus of keeping our dogs out of the trash/diaper pail too! I love that they are easy to customize to the proper length. When installing, make sure to follow the instructions and leave a little room. It doesn't affect the safety and makes it a little easier to close. These straps were extra sticky. We tried removing them to see if the adhesive left residue (PS - They don't) and even my husband struggled to peel them off. I'm planning to add these to our washer/dryer next!

As a mother of a 1 year old, I am always looking for ways to allow her to explore the world safely and I have been very happy to try these Straps, because my daughter has already started opening every single cabinet within her reach and I was very scared that she would hurt her little fingers. My recommendation is to always read the instructions before installing the straps because after closing the clasp it cannot be opened again and it is important to measure promptly before closing. But it is very easy to install and use. I think these straps are very convenient and secure and I like the idea that in the future when I no longer need them. I will be able to remove them and clean without any permanent damage. And I think it is very important what it says in the product instructions about avoiding dangerous products inside cabinets within the reach of children, even when we are using these straps. In this case I really use them to prevent my daughter from hurting her fingers, since the adhesive is quite resistant and the clasp is definitely child-proof during the exploration stage. The Safety 1st All Purpose straps arrived at the perfect time-to use for my newly walking 15 month old and to replace the locks/straps that my 4 year old has broken or figured out how to bypass. I love that these straps can be applied to many different areas and spaces! They were very easy to install with clear instructions. I placed them on the glass door on our entertainment center, our "lazy Susan" cabinet, junk drawer, and under the sink cabinet. The straps are very secure and have so far remained intact and in place despite being aggressively tugged on by my toddler. They have successfully hindered my kiddo's from accessing off limit areas where straps are in place. It's generally easy to unlatch and latch by adults when needed, although my mother at times struggles with the amount of pressure required due to her arthritis. I am mildly concerned that the adhesive will cause some cosmetic damage to applied surfaces in the future. I'm also eager to see how it will hold up over time with more repeated use. Overall it's an effective and functional safety product that I'd recommend to other families and caregivers looking to keep littles ones safe in their homes.
