The Spectra® S1 Plus Premier Rechargeable double electric breast pump provides all the features of the S2 Plus, but with a built-in battery. This means that you are now able to benefit from the efficiency, power, and performance of a hospital-strength breast pump without compromising on portability. Like all Spectra® pumps, the S1 Plus is a closed system – a physical barrier between the milk and the pump ensures hygiene and motor performance. With a maximum suction strength of 270mmHg and the ability to be used as a single or double pump, the S1 Plus is the ultimate breastfeeding solution with everything you need to get started. The S1’s completely flexible, one-touch button and digital controls allow you to set the pumping program to the speed and rhythm most effective for your body. The suction is adjustable in both let-down and expression modes. This quiet pump also includes a timer and night light.

Q: What is the difference in the S1 and S2 besides price?
submitted by asmith - 8 years ago
A: The S1 is rechargeable and the S2 needs to be plugged in.
submitted byCR - 8 years ago
A: Both are hospital grade. S1 is rechargeable (can operate on battery or plugged in). S2 must be plugged in.
submitted byawood - 8 years ago
A: The S1 is a rechargeable battery meaning you can take it and use it anywhere. The S2 is the same pump, but it only plugs into electric, which limits its use. I used the battery operated one and found out was helpful to be able to use it in the car or wherever I needed, versus being tied to an outlet to use it. It’s light, so you can pick it up and move with it, if necessary.
submitted byDeewy - 8 years ago
A: S1 has a built in rechargeable battery.
submitted byMercedes - 8 years ago
A: It has a built-in rechargeable battery, making it portable, which the S2 does not have in functionality.
submitted bysj - 8 years ago
A: Basically just portability. The S1 is blue, and has a rechargeable battery the can last up to three hours without being plugged in - easier for moms needing to pump on the go, or even just at home (you don't have to mess with an outlet, you can just start pumping). The S1 is blue and the S2 is pink. The S2 does not have a rechargeable battery of any kind.
submitted byhannahk - 8 years ago
Q: I see this is "hospital strength" but is it "hospital grade"? My insurance doesn't cover hospital grade, so I want to make sure it is a different desination than hospital strength.
submitted by Newmom - 3 years ago
A: Hi Newmom. All of our electric breast pumps have hospital strength suction capabilities. The S1 Plus and S2 Plus are widely accepted by insurance companies nationwide. The S1 Plus pump is similar to the S2 Plus in terms of power. The only difference is the rechargeable battery being in the S1. If your insurance company provides the S2 Plus as a covered pump, you may have to specifically request an S1. We have an insurance lookup tool on our website you can use to search different payers and see what pump options are available in your state.
Thank you for reaching out.

A: While the Spectra may have great suction, it is not designed to be used in a hospital setting by 150 women per year. Watch out for marketing words. Hospital 'strength' is not the same as multi-user.

Q: When you say Spectra S1 has a double and single pump does that mean you can pump both breasts at the same time, correct?
submitted by Elara - 3 years ago
A: Hi Elara. Yes, you can pump both breasts at the same time. When you want to only pump one breast, make sure you cover the tubing inlet at the base of the pump with the air cap. Happy Pumping!

Q: Does the unit come with the rechargeable battery or is that sold separately?
submitted by Kaira - 6 years ago

Q: Are there milk storage bags that are compatible or recommended to go with this pump? I'm a first time mom, I'm a little unsure about the best method from pump to storage.
submitted by KelseyJ - 7 years ago
A: Hello! Spectra offers breastmilk storage bags for use with all pumps. When choosing a storage bag, be certain it is BPA free, has a leak tight seal, and is designed for breastmilk storage. Always follow published recommendations for breastmilk storage, thawing, and reheating.
submitted bySpectra Product Expert - 6 years ago
Brand expert
A: The Kindee storage bags are compatible with this pump using an adapter (included in the Kindee breastfeeding kit or sold separately). The breastfeeding kit also includes nipples and "bottles" that attach to the storage bags, which eliminates the need for transferring milk and the use of actual bottles that you would need to wash. Way less work. It's my first pregnancy, and I am doing as much research as I can to take advantage of anything that is out there that will make our experience smoother! We received our Kindee breastfeeding kit today, and I am eager to test it!
submitted byCarla - 7 years ago
Q: I am also wondering what bottles are compatible with this breast pump or what sorts of adapters are needed to be purchased? Several questions on this topic here - PLEASE RESPOND!
submitted by Stephanie - 7 years ago
A: I use the Phillip Avent Natural bottles and they are compatible. Not sure about any other brands.
submitted byHeather - 6 years ago
A: Hi Stephanie. This is a great question. bottles are designed and tested for use with Spectra pumps. We do not recommend their use with other manufacturer's products as we cannot guarantee maximum performance and efficiency. Although we do have a Small Bottle Cap Adapter you can purchase which will fit any standard narrow neck milk bottle and fit a Spectra flange on top. Please reach out to our customer care team if you have any issues. We appreciate your question.

Q: why is this pump only $24.99 was it recalled, discontinued or just cheap?
submitted by MamaBam - 8 years ago
A: That was probably the price of the warranty. :)
submitted byrebnineveh - 7 years ago
A: It's very likely a typo. This is a $200 pump! If I could order it for $24.99 I would!
This breast pump has garnered a strong reputation among guests for its impressive suction power and efficiency in milk extraction. Many guests appreciate its portability, ease of use, and features like the night light, which enhance the pumping experience. While some guests have faced issues with durability and customer service, the overall consensus is that this pump significantly aids in building milk supply and is a reliable choice for nursing mothers.

2 defective pumps; bad customer service
Pump went out after 6 months of use (and I didn't use it much the first 3 months because I was mostly breastfeeding). Submitted a warranty claim form, they didn't receive it, when I followed up after 48 hours, they were fairly prompt in getting a new pump to me, which I received about a week after the old one went out. The replacement pump also has issues -- it only works for about 10 minutes before the motor starts making a weird noise and it doesn't work. I submitted a warranty claim form 4 days ago, an email 3 days ago, and called this morning, and am still waiting to get a new pump or hear anything. I would not recommend this pump since I have had 2 bad ones and the warranty process is super time-consuming, which is unacceptable when you depend on having a pump. I had a motif with my first kid, which is pretty similar to a spectra, and it is still working 3 years later!

I get the most output with this pump. You do have to play with the settings in the beginning to know what works for you. The suction power is great and the noise level is not too bad unless it’s on the higher settings then it does get pretty loud. The smallest size it comes with is the 24mm flange so I did have to buy flange inserts for it to fit better.

If you are trying to build your supply this is a must. I was using the Momcozy M5 and it was not emptying out my breast. Once I got these and attached it to my Legendairy cups it was a game changer. One thing I don’t like is it does not have a pause button

While I like how well I'm able to empty out my breasts, the usage of the device itself is very clumsy. The tubes keep popping out with the slightest change in my posture while pumping. The design forces me bend the entire time to hold the bottles as well as prevent the tubes from getting disconnected.

It didn’t work, so we had to return. You can’t return to the store, you had to contact the company itself and they were difficult to communicate with and accommodate to our request. They wouldn’t do a return but an exchange. The whole process has been a headache.
1 reply from Spectra Product Expert team - 5 months ago
We’re sorry to hear the process was frustrating. Breast pumps are typically handled through the manufacturer for warranty support rather than in-store returns, and exchanges are offered to ensure you receive a fully working pump as quickly as possible. If you still need assistance, please contact our Customer Care team at 1-855-405-0993 and we’ll be happy to help.

Good pumpage and comfortable to wear. Not very “portable” as the collection pieces keep bumping into everything and the tubing gets in the way when walking or setting it down and trying to do things. I keep bumping into the bottles for every little movement I do around the bottles. Wish they came with the CaraCups instead of having to purchase separately. The thing that made me give it 4 stars though was the angle of the collection device; its pointed up in the air so the extracted milk just collects in the chamber and ends up back filling around my boobs breaking the contact and suction of the pump. I’m having to sit facing the floor so the milk can drain into the bottles.

Worked for a month
The bottom suction stopped working only a month in, and the pump parts are a nightmare to clean.
1 reply from Spectra Product Expert team - 5 months ago
Hi Ree, thank you for sharing your feedback. A loss of suction after only a month isn’t typical, and we’d like the opportunity to help. Sometimes this can be related to parts assembly or components that may need replacing. Please reach out to our Customer Care team at 1-855-405-0993 so we can help troubleshoot and review support options with you.

This pump saved my breastfeeding journey. At six days postpartum I was readmitted due to severe postpartum pre-eclampsia. My supply took a major hit as I was unable to pump effectively during my admission. When I was discharged I used this pump all the time, it brought back my supply and helped stabilize it. I am now 8 months postpartum and still pumping / breastfeeding. I have used other pumps, and this one is THE only one that empties me completely. Without this pump I wouldn’t have been able to continue my breastfeeding journey. I am so thankful I got the Spectra this time!

I wish I had known more and gotten this pump when I had my first baby! I've used at least 5 other pumps between my first two babies from my initial pump, product testing, getting hands free pumps, and using hospital pumps during a NICU stay. The suction is great. I love that there is a light. The portability with the rechargeable battery is very convenient. I think the only things I could ask for improvement on, that I can totally live without is having a second spot to hold another pump bottle, a way to pause your pump session, and for the light to stay on when you stop your pump session. Fortunately, this pump is popular enough that there are accessories on Etsy available to told more than one bottle and you can immediately turn just the light back on. Just can't pause your pump session. Overall, I highly recommend the Spectra S1!

I never planned to exclusively pump, or pump at all until my baby was much older. I started pumping with a wearable that was gifted to me when my baby was struggling to latch and hungry and quickly realized I needed a better pump. My output wasn’t where I needed it to be so I looked for the gold standard and found this pump. It changed the game! Spectra saved my supply and my baby is exclusively on my milk! It’s so easy to use and everything I need in a pump. The light is perfect for late night pumps, the suction levels are comfortable and effective, it always empties my breasts and the price is great. My Spectra goes everywhere with me — I don’t even have to charge it on 8+ hour road trips pumping every 2-3 hours either! If you’re wondering if you should get this pump, do it.

When I first got it I didn’t like the thought of having a bulky portable pump until my supply dropped. I decided, why not give it a try and the results have been nothing short of amazing. It’s gentle yet effective and I really like how I can pump with it in the car if I wanted to. Definitely a great pump for a first time mom or someone trying to grow and establish a great supply. Pairs GREAT with Legendairy cups

The Spectra S1 got me through my first breastfeeding and pumping journey with ease! I was triple feeding for the first few weeks postpartum and this pump is reliable for pumping around the clock or once in a while. When I told my lactation consultant that I had the Spectra S1 at home she was confident with the effectiveness of this pump, and she was right. This pump has a comfortable suction for a reliable flow and output, the settings are easy to operate and maneuver through, and the battery life is impressive (you won’t feel tethered to the wall or one location). With a great pump and schedule, I was able to breastfeed and pump for almost two years. I’m looking forward to using it my second go around. However your journey looks, this pump will be a key component and a reliable device. Highly recommend!
