The Spectra® S1 Plus Premier Rechargeable double electric breast pump provides all the features of the S2 Plus, but with a built-in battery. This means that you are now able to benefit from the efficiency, power, and performance of a hospital-strength breast pump without compromising on portability. Like all Spectra® pumps, the S1 Plus is a closed system – a physical barrier between the milk and the pump ensures hygiene and motor performance. With a maximum suction strength of 270mmHg and the ability to be used as a single or double pump, the S1 Plus is the ultimate breastfeeding solution with everything you need to get started. The S1’s completely flexible, one-touch button and digital controls allow you to set the pumping program to the speed and rhythm most effective for your body. The suction is adjustable in both let-down and expression modes. This quiet pump also includes a timer and night light.

Q: What is the difference in the S1 and S2 besides price?
submitted by asmith - 7 years ago
A: The S1 is a rechargeable battery meaning you can take it and use it anywhere. The S2 is the same pump, but it only plugs into electric, which limits its use. I used the battery operated one and found out was helpful to be able to use it in the car or wherever I needed, versus being tied to an outlet to use it. It’s light, so you can pick it up and move with it, if necessary.
submitted byDeewy - 7 years ago
A: S1 has a built in rechargeable battery.
submitted byMercedes - 7 years ago
A: It has a built-in rechargeable battery, making it portable, which the S2 does not have in functionality.
submitted bysj - 7 years ago
A: Basically just portability. The S1 is blue, and has a rechargeable battery the can last up to three hours without being plugged in - easier for moms needing to pump on the go, or even just at home (you don't have to mess with an outlet, you can just start pumping). The S1 is blue and the S2 is pink. The S2 does not have a rechargeable battery of any kind.
submitted byhannahk - 7 years ago
A: The S1 is rechargeable and the S2 needs to be plugged in.
submitted byCR - 7 years ago
A: Both are hospital grade. S1 is rechargeable (can operate on battery or plugged in). S2 must be plugged in.
submitted byawood - 7 years ago
Q: I see this is "hospital strength" but is it "hospital grade"? My insurance doesn't cover hospital grade, so I want to make sure it is a different desination than hospital strength.
submitted by Newmom - 3 years ago
A: While the Spectra may have great suction, it is not designed to be used in a hospital setting by 150 women per year. Watch out for marketing words. Hospital 'strength' is not the same as multi-user.
submitted byLearn4Birth - 2 years ago
A: Hi Newmom. All of our electric breast pumps have hospital strength suction capabilities. The S1 Plus and S2 Plus are widely accepted by insurance companies nationwide. The S1 Plus pump is similar to the S2 Plus in terms of power. The only difference is the rechargeable battery being in the S1. If your insurance company provides the S2 Plus as a covered pump, you may have to specifically request an S1. We have an insurance lookup tool on our website you can use to search different payers and see what pump options are available in your state.
Thank you for reaching out.

Q: When you say Spectra S1 has a double and single pump does that mean you can pump both breasts at the same time, correct?
submitted by Elara - 3 years ago
A: Hi Elara. Yes, you can pump both breasts at the same time. When you want to only pump one breast, make sure you cover the tubing inlet at the base of the pump with the air cap. Happy Pumping!

Q: Are there milk storage bags that are compatible or recommended to go with this pump? I'm a first time mom, I'm a little unsure about the best method from pump to storage.
submitted by KelseyJ - 6 years ago
A: Hello! Spectra offers breastmilk storage bags for use with all pumps. When choosing a storage bag, be certain it is BPA free, has a leak tight seal, and is designed for breastmilk storage. Always follow published recommendations for breastmilk storage, thawing, and reheating.
submitted bySpectra Product Expert - 5 years ago
Brand expert
A: The Kindee storage bags are compatible with this pump using an adapter (included in the Kindee breastfeeding kit or sold separately). The breastfeeding kit also includes nipples and "bottles" that attach to the storage bags, which eliminates the need for transferring milk and the use of actual bottles that you would need to wash. Way less work. It's my first pregnancy, and I am doing as much research as I can to take advantage of anything that is out there that will make our experience smoother! We received our Kindee breastfeeding kit today, and I am eager to test it!
submitted byCarla - 6 years ago
Q: I am also wondering what bottles are compatible with this breast pump or what sorts of adapters are needed to be purchased? Several questions on this topic here - PLEASE RESPOND!
submitted by Stephanie - 7 years ago
A: I use the Phillip Avent Natural bottles and they are compatible. Not sure about any other brands.
submitted byHeather - 6 years ago
A: Hi Stephanie. This is a great question. bottles are designed and tested for use with Spectra pumps. We do not recommend their use with other manufacturer's products as we cannot guarantee maximum performance and efficiency. Although we do have a Small Bottle Cap Adapter you can purchase which will fit any standard narrow neck milk bottle and fit a Spectra flange on top. Please reach out to our customer care team if you have any issues. We appreciate your question.

Q: why is this pump only $24.99 was it recalled, discontinued or just cheap?
submitted by MamaBam - 8 years ago
A: That was probably the price of the warranty. :)
submitted byrebnineveh - 6 years ago
A: It's very likely a typo. This is a $200 pump! If I could order it for $24.99 I would!
The breast pump has received mixed reviews from guests. Many praise its strong suction, portability, and efficiency in increasing milk output. However, some guests have experienced issues with suction loss, durability, and defective parts. The pump's customizable settings and rechargeable battery are highlighted as key features, making it a popular choice for exclusive pumpers and those needing a reliable, portable option.

This product broke. I bought this 1.5 weeks ago only, 2 of its parts broke. Paying $240 and getting this product - I didn’t expect this! I would really not recommend anyone to buy this. The suction part of tube broke - a complete waste of my money! Though the suction pressure is good - the quality of the parts are bad.

Do NOT buy !!!
Absolutely hate this pump. It never works!!! Suction wise, I always have to rearrange the parts multiple times to get the suction to work! They worked OK the first month , but after that they started to stop working. I do NOT recommend this pump.

LOVE THIS PUMP!
This pump was a lifesaver! I originally purchased the willow go pumps to use as my primary, however they weren't emptying me. As soon as I got this pump it was a relief. Hands down the best pump I've used.

First time mom here. Between so many pump options to choose from I decided to buy this as my main pump. I am definitely not an over supplier. However, I always seem to be able to produce the most milk with this pump. It empties me out and expression (vacuum mode) and strength of the suction is really good 😬👌🏼. I always start with cycle 70 vacuum 5 for a few minutes the I just change the cycle throughout my pump session. I hope this helps. Congrats to all the new mom’s out there :)

DO NOT BUY
Please do not buy this pump!!! It works decently for a month or so and then the buttons will start malfunctioning. One day, it just wouldn't power on. I'm unable to nurse and the only way I can feed my baby is by pumping and giving her a bottle. You buy this product feeling assured because it has a two-year warranty, but customer care will NOT HELP! I have called and left emails and it took two days of nonstop calling to get someone to answer. They then had me fill out a form and send a video of it not working and said they would overnight a new pump. It has been two more days and NOTHING!!! Awful customer service and my supply has completely dropped. Please, if you want to be able to continue providing milk for your baby, do not get a Spectra device!

It can have improvements
It works, but the design has some problems. Considering the price, these problems make it feel cheap. The screw cap is too short. I have had at least two accidents where I lost what I collected because of this. The second problem is the light, which needs to be an amber light. More importantly, it is extremely basic that this thing needs a start button or an option where you don't start pulling on the high setting you used the last time, it is painful.

Strong pump, needs different shape and auto advance
Strong pump, works BUT I hate that it doesn’t automatically switch after let down. In my sleep deprived state I’ve forgotten to switch over and waste like 11-15 mns not getting a proper amount of milk out. Tubing is short. Shape is ridiculous and doesn’t fit well in bags. I miss the old medelas

Helped me get my supply back!
I’m 4 months post partum and started going back to work full time. I originally had the Medela pump and when I started work my supply drastically dropped. Not sure if it was the pump or what but I pumped every 2-3 hours during work hours and I was only getting HALF the amount I usually got. Decided to buy the Spectra and just used it for the first time today at work and tell me how my supply DOUBLED my usual output number. All I know is that this pump is a god send and it helped me relieve myself of SO MUCH STRESS

Suction decrease 3 months
This is a great pump when it works like it should. After 3 months of usage there was a drastic suction decrease. I’ve never been able to pump at one of the higher setting and now using a higher setting isn’t making a difference . We’ve replaced it with new duck valve, tubing and membrane, it didn’t make any difference. I really need another pump bc I’m likely getting clogged now, but this brand seems to be unreliable, especially after reading all these reviews also I’m not the only one with a bad experience.

Hi Anonymous - Thank you for sharing your experience, and we’re truly sorry to hear your S1 Plus has lost suction after just a few months. We understand how frustrating and stressful this can be—especially when you're concerned about your milk supply and comfort. You’ve already taken some great steps by replacing the parts. Since that didn’t resolve the issue, we’d love for our Customer Care team to take a closer look with you. Your pump is covered under a 2-year limited motor warranty, and we want to help make this right. Please give us a call at 1-855-405-0993—we’re here to support you and would be happy to troubleshoot or explore warranty options.

Customer service lacking
I had nothing but good things to say about this pump when I started using it. So convenient that it was portable, lightweight AND hospital grade suction, which was important for my low supply. After a few months however my pump stopped charging. I submitted my warranty and the next day I was informed that my warranty was accepted on April 23 however I have still not received my replacement nor have I heard anything from the company. I have called a few times with no answer (their website does say that their phone system is under maintenance however this has been for a few weeks). I have also sent countless e-mails to customer service and warranty with no response. I am very disappointed since this pump was so good before it stopped charging and my backup pump is not nearly as effective.
