Q: My bottle states a warning: “do not use with chlorine bleach.” What are Palmolive’s exact ingredients in this product? Is there an ammonia ingredient which would be dangerous combined with chlorine bleach?

A: The dish soap goes through an ammoniated process, whereby ammonia is introduced to the formula. Although it is not used as an ingredient, there could be traces of ammonia remaining in the product after manufacturing. Ammonia mixed with bleach can cause toxic fumes. This IS unscented. Another reviewer must have mixed them up. Anyway, though I like that this is unscented, it works a little less than okay. It doesn't have that "glide over the dishes" texture, doesn't work as well as other top brands, and I find myself scrubbing harder. Not only that, but it is very harsh. My hands have gotten a lot rougher and drier since I started using it. They really hurt!

Shame on Palmolive for adding fragrance to Pure + Clear Liquid Dish Soap! For those with multiple chemical sensitivity, this is a deal breaker. You have all your other soaps to play with fragrance & you took the only one that was fragrance free & added fragrance to it. Worse yet, the label is almost indistinguishable between the old & new. Fragrance is definitely not a "necessary" ingredient!

Works well with no added fragrance or chemicals like phenoxyethanol that add a scent but is allowed because they use it as a stabilizer. It won't make your food have an unexpected flavor. It is just soap. There is only one other brand makes a dish soap that doesn't have a fragrance which is Planet Dish fragrance free which is more expensive. Palmolive Pure and Clear Fragrance Free doesn't have ingredients like sodium benzoate, benzoic acid, or benzyl alcohol which are issues if you have Balsam of Peru allergy. Those ingredients also are known to have benzene contamination just like fragrance. Hopefully they continue to make this forever. It is a great dish soap for every use including baby bottles and safer than specialty dish soaps made for that purpose. It is also cheaper.

After using dawn for a long time and getting more intolerant with fragrance (the ingredients aren’t great for you in general), I found this soap and was pleasantly surprised at how well it cleans and cuts through grease. It doesn’t have fragrances and the ingredients are very clean. It also got a very high ewg rating too! I love it and with a great price, I’ll continue buying!
