It's fine, not as good as they once were.
The trash can works perfectly fine. However, the opening & closing doors are much looser than they were in past models. So there's some squeaking going on that's a bit annoying.

Very nice aesthetic. Wish simple human made a narrow can like this with a pedal on the wider side. Simple human trash cans tend to be on the bigger size of equivalent volume tags cans.

Replacement Butterfly Bin
This bin replaced the identical one which was over 15 years old and still looked good and was usable. I just fancied a new one. Does everything it says on the description and I recommend Simplehuman and would not buy another brand.

Works and looks great!
Fluid motion, sturdy, cleans up perfectly. The simplehuman liners are easy and sturdy, but store-bought 13 gal kitchen trash bags also work well (we've used both). Our last simplehuman step can was a hand-me-down that we used heavily for 16 years; it's been retired to the laundry room, but still works well after all these years and 4 interstate moves. I look forward to this one also lasting for years and years!

This is our second simplehuman can. We find the design a clean way to store recyclables and/or trash until pick-up day! Looks nice in the kitchen compared to hiding an open tub inside cabinet.

Usage Issues
I needed a smaller than normal trashcan due to a low countertop, so I thought the butterfly opening would be good. Two issues: 1. There are two lid stoppers in the back which are hard to get to, but each does basically the same thing so not sure why there are two. Regardless, the black rubber stopper came off and is lost the day we got it. 2. The step button to open the lids is very precise from the very front and is very sharp on the sides. So being barefoot, it hurts each time.

Well designed, built to last
We’ve finally replaced our old simple human round step can (which still performs admirably, even after over 15 years of daily use) with thi one, which fits it the space better, and tends not to pivot like the round one does. It has a tight footprint, seals in odors, and the interior bucket keeps any mess from the mechanism. You can prop the lid open at need. Lid closure is slow and quiet. The opening is more narrow than we are accustomed to, and the ends of the flaps when open look a bit pointy, but those are the only concerns. All in all, it’s exactly what we wanted: a capacious can for some narrow real estate.
