Q: What's the trick to getting the soft close feature to work consistently? It slams shut sometimes & slow closes sometimes!

A: I tried that and while I worked one time it goes back to default if not shutting softly once I out the bin back in. Do you have a video?

Q: The Lid does NOT close all the way. Is this a product defect? There is a 1/3 inch opening, which will make any trash inside smell up the kitchen. Any suggestions? Is this unit broken?

The soft close broke after two weeks. Do not buy this bin. Spend a little more for something that will last longer than a few weeks. I don’t even know if you can return a garbage bin but I hope they take it back.

It came with a broken piece and now the lid shuts down fast and loud. I ordered it shipped bc im in my last trimester of pregnancy and dont want to have to go to the store physically. Now i have to go regardless to exchange it. Target did me twice this week with their shipping.

Bought three of these. Only one worked. Supposed to be slow closing. The mechanism that controls this was broken on two out of three cans, in two separate orders. Literal trash. I gave it two stars because it is a nice can and at least one of the items worked.

The soft close mechanism broke. Did not last long. Now the lid slams closed. Feels cheap and dumpy. Wish I had paid more and got something that's better quality. Now I have to replace it. Would not recommend.

I love the look and ease of using this trash can without the simplehuman prices. It's nice & slim. I have it on the wall of my walkway between the kitchen and living room & it is completely out of the way. It also looks fancy. I hate the plastic Trask cans where you can see the grub on the outside, the lid is always open or missing, or just doesn't exist to begin with. I don't think I can live with an unlidded trash can again. Since it's steel, the lid is heavier than plastic cans, which I find makes it so much easier to open with the step mechanism. I feel like the plastic ones always try to refuse to open and then pop open violently. The inner can also comes out, which makes it so much easier to change bags (and also it has an inner can! You're not putting the bag directly into the steel can). The only downside is that if anything does somehow spill between the inner can and the outer steel, it's not easy to clean. Also, the inside of the lid is not lined, so if your trash gets too full, the steel is right on it getting a nice trash patina. Would be nicer if the inside of the lid was lined with a removable/washable plastic protector. But it's great even without. I've already decided I'm going to buy a second one when I move and this one will enjoy a life of semi-retirement on the patio.

the interior lid is rusting ... there are lots of little rust dots that i had to brillow off but now it is marred on the inside of the lid. stainless doesnt rust.
