Description

HoldOn was born from the simple idea that there had to be a better way to go about our daily chores—and it can start with a better bag. HoldOn bags are super strong, durable trash bags made with compostable materials and plant-based renewables like cornstarch. The result? A heavy-duty bag that is made without traditional plastic and is free from harmful toxins like BPA and PFOA. When composted, the bags break down cleanly without microplastics or toxic residue in weeks.

What's more is we always pack in recyclable, 100% FSC-certified packaging—never plastic. Packaging switched from plastic to paper, aluminum, steel, or glass.

Product contains compostable elements and is available in two convenient sizes that are strong for you and gentle on the planet.

Q: Once I put something liquid in them, how long before it starts to leak?

submitted by Trudysmom - 1 year ago
  • A: The bags last much longer than the recommended 3-4 days! I use the bag for one week as a recycling bin liner then one week as a garbage bag. Never had an issue.

submitted byAmanda - 9 months ago
  • A: Hi there - thanks for reaching out to us and great question! This is something that comes up from time to time as our HoldOn 13 gallon tall kitchen drawstring bags are made of compostable and plant-based polymers that are more sensitive to moisture build-up. For optimal performance, we recommend to store your bags in a cool and dry space to help maintain their strength. Secondly, to avoid leaks during use - we recommend to drain excess liquid from wet items before throwing them away (including coffee grounds and used tea bags). We find it best to wrap wet items in a used paper towel or napkin prior to disposal to help minimize moisture build-up inside the bag. Lastly, we recommend to switch out your bag every 3 ~ 4 days, and if you are a small household or do not create that much waste (which is a great thing, by the way!), it's your opportunity to recycle what needs to be recycled, throw away food scraps in a composting bin and use our 13 gallon tall kitchen bags for dry items to help extend the days of use per bag. We hope this helps, and thanks for your interest in HoldOn!

Q: Can I put my recycling items in them?

submitted by Dory - 9 months ago
  • A: In short: it depends! Many recycling programs require items to be picked up from special bins loose, meaning a Holdon bag full of recyclables would not be accepted. If this is the case, Holdon bags are great to be used as liners for your recycling bin before you empty it out for bulk collection. We recommend following your recycling program instructions to ensure that your items are approved and recycled properly.

Q: Are these bags certified to go into municpal green waste?

submitted by Libby - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi there, and thanks for the question! Our Tall Kitchen 13g bags are certified by BPI to be composted at commercial facilities that accept compostable certified bags along with food waste and other compostable items. Since there are different requirements for what can be accepted depending on the municipality, we recommend asking your collection agency of the green waste bin for confirmation. Thank you!

Love the concept but the bag gets shredded easily. Cannot hold the waste from normal kitchen trash. It rips

I've been using the smaller version of HoldOn bags and appreciate that they are compostable. Now that this tall version is available I'll use fewer bags. Great!

Sturdy eco-friendly option!

I’ve tried a few eco trash bags before and most felt like a downgrade, but these actually hold up. They’re sturdy, don’t tear easily, and the drawstrings work well without slipping. It’s been an easy switch that doesn’t feel any different from what I was using before.

I didn’t expect to feel strongly about trash bags, but these bags have honestly impressed me. They’re sturdy without being bulky, and I haven’t had any issues with leaks or tearing. The drawstrings are strong and actually make it easy to tie up and carry.

Great idea - but leaks

Same as said by another reviewer, had it in my trash can for 2 days, already composting and leaking. Trying double bagging that’s expensive.

Love these

Great compostable garbage bag alternative. The only down side is if you have food scraps you can’t put them right in the bottom I usually try to put them on top of some other garbage. If you do the bag will break down and rip when you take it out. It fits in my 13 gallon trash bag but I just have to be careful not to rip it putting it in.

This is a great idea, however, it starts composting while it’s still in my trashcan. It’s a mess. I’m going back to paper bags.

Terrible

These are terrible. They tear so easily and rip when you try to take them apart. Please don’t waste your money. They also don’t fit 13 gallon bins.

Can be a little thicker to hold the food scraps liquid. The liquid will bust the bottom of the bag so be cautious what food items are placed in the bag , and do not fill the bag to the top , maybe half way. Other than that I like them and waiting for them to be upgraded to a thicker texture 🙂

Stick with the big name brands over these

I wanted to like these bags because they’re eco-friendly, but they are awful. The biggest issue for me is how badly they leak, and I don’t throw liquids in my trash. Anything organic that breaks down while it’s in this bag will leak out. I’ll stick with the name brand bags from now on.

Bags are weak and fail - don't buy

Really wanted to like these kitchen bags, but they are not strong. They rip and tear more than comparable kitchen bags. Sharing a picture of one that split open and dumped everything as I was taking out the garbage tonight. Not happy. Don't buy.

Great

We switched to this bag over a year ago. We have only had one break that was caused by over stuffing. We recycle. We avoid placing large items and plastic pieces that might pierce the bag. Remember these bags are not built to stretch around your garbage, just to contain and transport.

Compost QUICK. Break easy.

These tear and leak SO easily. I get that they’re supposed to break down over time, but they’re breaking down quickly causing such a mess.
