Q: Currently in the thinking about it stage. How many months before trying should I start prenatal vitamins?

submitted by Denise - 2 years ago
  • A: You should start prenatal well before you get pregnant, so anytime is good

submitted byEducator - 2 years ago
  • A: Thanks for reaching out, Denise! Research shows that it takes time to reach optimal nutrient levels for conception, and taking a prenatal vitamin at least three months before conception is ideal. Let us know if we can help with anything else!

Q: Can you take these instead of the multi vitamin without pregnancy?

submitted by BusyWorkingMomma - 6 days ago
  • A: Yes! Essential Prenatal can be taken even if you’re not currently pregnant. It’s formulated with specific nutrients and nutrient levels to support pregnancy, so if you’re not pregnant or planning for pregnancy, Essential for Women 18+ may be a better fit for your current life stage. If you have any questions about which option is best for your individual needs, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider.

Q: Is this third party tested for pesticides and heavy metals?

submitted by Just reviewing - 5 months ago
  • A: Hi there! At Ritual, our products are manufactured in accordance with the FDA’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), which help ensure quality and safety. We take serious measures including conducting rigorous third-party testing on every batch with world-class organizations, such as Eurofins and IEH Laboratories. Our third party tests each batch for heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants, helping to ensure our products are compliant within current guidelines and regulations. We're here if you have any other questions!

Q: Will this product help with hair growth if not pregnant?

submitted by curiousgeorge23 - 10 months ago
  • A: Thanks so much for your question! Our Essential Prenatal is formulated to support nutrient needs during pregnancy and preconception, and while many of the included nutrients play important roles in overall wellness, it isn’t designed or studied for hair growth benefits outside of those life stages. If hair support is your primary goal, we’d recommend checking in with your healthcare provider for guidance on what might be most appropriate for your needs. We’re also happy to share ingredient details with them if that’s helpful.

Q: How many milligrams of folic acid does this have?

submitted by Jackie - 11 months ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out! To clarify, we don’t include folic acid in our products, but we do include methylated folate. Our prenatal contains 1000 mcg DFE of methylated folate (5-MTHF), the active form of folic acid—in fact, folic acid is actually converted into 5-MTHF in the body. They are different forms of the same nutrient (folate) that both help support adequate folate levels in the body, a key determinant in healthy neural tube development.* The RDI for folate in pregnancy is 600 mcg DFE. The US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends a daily supplement of 400–800 mcg folic acid for all women who are planning or capable of pregnancy.” (400-800 mcg of folic acid is the equivalent of about 667 to 1333 mcg DFE—making our dose of 1000 mcg DFE right in the middle). We're confident in this decision relying on the latest scientific research as well as research and claims from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the steward of national nutrition research, and the FDA. As part of this, there is significant scientific evidence that demonstrates that 5-MTHF promotes folate levels in the body the same or greater than folic acid supplementation.

Q: Can this product help with hair growth for women over 50?

submitted by SJ - 1 year ago
  • A: Thanks so much for reaching out! While our Essential Prenatal wasn’t formulated specifically to support hair growth, it does contain key nutrients, like Folate, Iron, and Omega-3 DHA, that can play a role in supporting overall health during pregnancy and postpartum, when hair changes are common. For women over 50 looking for hair support, we’d recommend checking out our Essential for Women 50+ multivitamin, which is designed to help fill nutrient gaps common in that life stage. If hair health is a top concern, pairing a multivitamin with a targeted hair support supplement (such as one that includes biotin or other clinically studied ingredients) could be helpful, but we always recommend checking with your healthcare provider to find what’s best for your unique needs.

Q: I have seen this product has been tested positive for lead. Has that been resolved?

submitted by Mari - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out! We take the safety and quality of our products extremely seriously. Here is a little background on how we handle testing for and aim to reduce the risk of high levels of heavy metals (as a reminder, no brand intentionally adds heavy metals to its products). Our testing: Managing trace levels of heavy metals, including lead, is complex. As part of our rigorous testing, we conduct third-party testing on every batch of our products through IEH Laboratories, a global leader in product and food testing, who independently tests each batch for heavy metals (including lead) to ensure they fall well below the most stringent regulatory requirement for our industry which is California’s Prop 65 (50 ppb for lead), as well as allergens and microbes. Third-party certification: Our products also undergo third-party testing through the Clean Label Project, which is considered one of the strictest certifications addressing contaminants, including heavy metals like lead. Essential Prenatal has received the Clean Label Project Certification and its Purity Award, which is reserved for products with the lowest levels compared to their peers. Transparency: We aim for a leading level of transparency in the industry. Our visible supply chain allows customers to see for themselves the work we do to partner with ingredient suppliers that work hard to reduce the risk of contaminants to the degree possible, knowing that it’s impossible to reduce heavy metals, including lead, to zero. Education & Advocacy: Ritual knows it’s impossible (even if we wish) for any brand to be lead-free entirely, so we openly educate consumers about heavy metals. We are also one of the only supplement brands openly lobbying Congress, asking them to establish heavy metal limits for supplements and protein powders. Our program’s current detection limit is standard for our lab and the supplement industry at <.01ppm; however, we are actively working to try and lower the detection limit for our testing. We are always striving for continuous improvement and transparency. You can see the testing conducted on Ritual’s products through our Certificate of Traceability.

Q: Is it a bad thing to take out the rubber piece that says “this stays in the bottle, k”?

submitted by JR - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question! That little insert that says “this stays in the bottle, k?” is actually a food-grade silicone tab infused with a small amount of essential oil—it’s there to help support the overall smell and taste experience of the product. You're absolutely welcome to remove it if you prefer. It’s not harmful and won’t affect the quality or efficacy of the product itself. Just a little detail we include to make your daily ritual a bit more enjoyable!

Q: Are these ones easier to take than the mint essence ones? The mint ones made me gag and I could get them down my last pregnancy.

submitted by Mk2023 - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi there! We completely understand that taste and smell sensitivity can be heightened during pregnancy. Some customers have found it helpful to: -Remove the tab from the bottle and leave the cap off for a few hours to let the scent dissipate. -Take the capsules with food or a flavored beverage. We hope this helps!

Q: Do you recommend taking any other vitamins that are necessary for optimal pregnancy health on top of this vitamin? (Things like DHA or B vitamins?) Or, does it include everything you'll need?

submitted by M - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question! Our Essential Prenatal is thoughtfully formulated with 12 key nutrients to support pregnancy, including Folate (as methylated folate), Iron (as ferrous bisglycinate), and Omega-3 DHA from vegan algal oil. These ingredients are included based on what most pregnant women tend to miss through diet alone. That said, every body is different—and depending on your unique needs or health goals, some people choose to supplement further. We always recommend checking in with your healthcare provider to personalize your routine based on your individual needs 💛

    New formula?

They must’ve changed the ingredients from the last time bc this time I get horribly nasty tasting fishy burps. I guess they changed their source for the fish oil to something low quality. I had to change to taking it in the morning so that I don’t have to taste it before bed after brushing my teeth bc it’s disgusting. Once this bottle is done I’m switching.

Prenatal vitamin that suited me well

I have been taking these vitamins since Jan 2023. I did see my Vitamin B12 and D3 levels get back on track. No issues during pregnancy and post partum. For additional choline I tried the protein powder during pregnancy. I have also used postpartum vitamins and multivitamin for women. I love the fact that ritual has clean ingredients and are traceable. I have recommended these to my friends.

    Great Product

Love that it doesn't have an unnecessarily insane amount of Iron like most prenatals. Also, without enough FDA oversight these days, I trust Ritual more than many pre-natal brands currently on the market.Docked 1 star because I wish they had folic acid, rather than folate. Folic acid has decades of research to back it up compared to folate (which is why my OB recommended taking Folic acid specifically).

    Very good prenatal

It’s a prenatal vitamin that’s easy to take because it smells great; it’s high-quality, causes no stomach upset, and is very comprehensive. This is my second bottle, and I’m very happy with this brand.

    NOT worth the ridiculous price

I wanted to like these prenatals but the citrus added is absolutely awful. Not only does it taste awful but the heartburn and nausea that comes after taking them makes throwing the entire bottle away sound like a great idea.

    I wanted to love these

I was really excited to try these prenatals as I see them everywhere and everyone loved them, the ingredients are really good it has a good iron and folate on it. Unfortunately these made me extremely nauseous and gave me the worse acid reflux I do have HG and ended up having to just take folate.

    Best Prenatal for sensitive stomach

I just recently started taking the ritual prenatal vitamin l! I tried two other brands and those made me extremely sick vomiting and extremely nauseous. My doctor recommended I switched to ritual and it was the best thing I’ve done. I’ve been on it for about a week and so far thank God no nausea no vomiting. I’m really happy I found this prenatal and I’ve heard nothing but great reviews about it!

    Fishy burbs

I think these are really good vitamins and completely worth it. The only problem is that they cause excessive fishy-tasting burps—no matter what time of day I take them, or whether I take them with or without food, morning or night; it makes no difference. They linger all day or even until the next day, and I really just can't handle that.

    Love Ritual!

I've been taking Ritual for almost 7 years now. I started with the Women's Multivitamin and then switched to the Prental Mutlivitamin when I was pregnant with my first, followed by the Post-Natal Multivitamin. As soon as we decided to try for baby number 2, I switched back to the Prenatal and have been on it all throughout my second pregnancy, now in the third trimester! I love the ingredient quality and transparency, and the ease of having a subscription. Truly one of the best investments and commitments I've made for my health!
