GE CYNC Smart LED Wafer Downlight Full Color

I purchased the GE Cync Recessed Lights with high hopes, but they have been nothing short of a constant headache from day one. Setup was extremely difficult — connecting them to the app took hours of frustration and repeated attempts. That should have been my first sign to return them right then. Once installed, the problems only got worse. The lights frequently dropped connection, making the dimming and color-changing features unreliable at best. More often than not, the app simply wouldn’t recognize the lights, leaving me with no control over the features I paid extra for. Fast forward a year, and now they won’t connect to the app at all. They’re essentially just basic white lights now — and not even dimmable. I would have been far better off sticking with regular recessed lights for a fraction of the cost, which would have offered more reliability and functionality than these “smart” lights ever did. To make matters worse, GE Cync customer service was no help. After multiple attempts, they were unable to resolve the issue or get the lights reconnected. When I requested a refund or credit, they flatly denied it, despite the product clearly failing well before its expected lifespan. Overall, this has been an incredibly disappointing experience. I expected better from GE — both in product quality and customer support. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for smart lighting that actually works.

Easy installation. Simply screwed it into the old can fixture & clipped it in place I did not use the Cync app, but used the Matter route to set up on Amazon Alexa. You don’t get the extras such as precision control, light shows & reveal lighting doing this, just basic colors & brightness adjustment. FYE, when going the Matter set up, the QR code/ 11 digit installation number is on the fixture itself, not in the manual. You’ll have to scan it or jot down the number before you completely install it.

Love the Reveal setting - but it flashes red when you turn it off. This only happens when the Reveal option is turned on. I tried just the standard BR40 lights - but those flicker. These are non-flicker - and very customizable - but the red flash when powering down is very distracting. I tried the smart switch - that worked - no red flash. But the dimming fade was very uneven. Maybe a firmware update can fix this in the future. Either an instant-on / off option for the smart switch or fixing the red power-down flash.

I purchased 9 pairs of these lights and replaced all of my overhead can lights with these GE lights. I then downloaded the Cync app and painstakingly installed each individual light, adjusting the colors and the schedule to allow bright lights during the day and red lights at night (easier on the eyes and won’t disrupt sleep). After two months, the lights decided to reset and stopped displaying the colors that I set them to. When I access the Cync app, it won’t find the lights on my system and won’t allow me to reset them. It feels like a complete waste of money unless and until the app recognizes my lights.

These GE Cync Reveal lights are amazing. They are easy to install, and easy to set up with the Cync app. The choice of white light settings, colors, light shows, scenes, and schedules is also amazing. The Reveal setting adds a nice effect. The GE Cync Reveal lights are simply wonderful and deserving of the rewards they have received.
