Q: Does the bottom part separate from the planter?

submitted by C Plants - 10 months ago
  • A: The bottom part of the planter actually does separate from the pot itself. It takes a little bit of work to do so, because it snaps in, but it for sure can separate.

submitted byJamaicanScorpio - 10 months ago
  • A: They say it’s not supposed to be removed but…..how are you supposed to clean it if it gets gross for any reason? It arrives stuck onto the bottom of the pot pretty tightly - you can pull it apart (with some effort), replant your plant, and then just set your plant back on saucer.

  • A: Hello - Great Question! Thank you for reaching out. The base of the planter is not intended to be removed. Hope this information was helpful! - Sherteen

Q: How many inches is the watering reservoir? I would like to know how deep the pot is in the area where soil is placed. Thanks!

submitted by AReviewer - 1 year ago
  • A: This became a big concern of mine after I purchase a few of these today. So what I’m about to mention seems like a problem, but fixable problem. I’ve separated my planter from the base. The actual reservoir has a depth of 2-1/4”, meanwhile the actual planter sits just a little over 1/2” into the water. The problem that this creates, is that there is now about 1-3/4” of water that doesn’t make contact with the bottom of the planter, and will just sit there. I did however notice that each planter I bought, both 10” and 6”, has holes in the bottom for what appears to be for rope. So I will be buying self watering rope to help soak up the remaining amount of water that does not make contact with the planter.

Q: How many gallons is this?

submitted by Tu - 1 year ago
  • A: It’s hard to estimate how many gallons this planter holds, because you can’t fill it to the top. I did however set my 3 gallon water bottle inside of it, and there was still room to move it around. So I’d estimate some where between 2.5-3 gallons.

    Not completly self watering

I purchased these because I like the square design of them. These are sold as self watering pots, but aren’t completely self watering. At least not without a minor modification; the addition of a self wicking rope. Where these fail at being completely self watering, is that the upper part of the pot,l only sits a little over a half inch into the base, which is 2-1/4 inch deep. This means that every time you fill the base, and it absorbs water, you’ll have 1-3/4 inches of standing water that will sit in the base, until you top off that 1/2 inch again. Now without knowing this information, you will assume that because the base has water in it, that the pot is still sucking up water from the base, via the capillary action that makes a self watering pot, self watering. That standing water may become a breeding area for small pest. Now as far as the modification goes that I’ve mentioned, the simple addition of some self wicking rope, would suck up the remaining water in the base, and feed it to the soil. These do not look like they can come apart, and in the Q&A, it’s stated that they are not intended to be taken apart. But they can come apart (with a little bit of muscle) and can go back together easily simply by pressing where the post in the base go through the holes in the planter. There are some holes in the bottom of the planter that almost by design, seem like they are specifically there for self wicking rope.

    Good

This pot is amazingly cheap. It also will hold water at the bottom, which not many pots do. I have not used it long, so I do not know how it will hold up. But at this price, does it really matter.

I love these!!!! They hold up so well through any weather as well!!! They are kinda lightweight though so if you live in a windy area maybe throw a rock or 2 in there so they don’t blow away!!!
